On a serious note. Don Felder was the strongest musician in the band. Walsh, while a worthy soloist, tended to be a little repetitive where Felder had more technical chops. Henley was simply sufficient as a drummer and nothing more. Were Henley and Frey one of the best American pop/rock songwriting duos of all time? Sure.

The one area they could be considered a top 5 "group" were their live harmonies. Spot, freaking, on. There are some pretty nasty stories of Henley making them circle up and work on harmonies for hours at a time.

I enjoyed many album cuts of theirs: Too Many Hands, Outlaw Man (very underrated), Try And Love Again, Tryin', Victim Of Love

IMO the Eagles are in the top 10 All-Time best bands. But the GOAT is and will always be.....

Lot of down votes for this, best band of all-time? in arguably the most subjective art form of all-time? Good luck convincing people to your position

FWIW: I think the Eagles are a great band but there's so many bands that have ever existed, so much is contingent on personal preference and shite like that

best band of all time?

they are easily the most over-rated band ever, and certainly not worthy of being in a discussion as even the greatest california band or the greatest 70s band, much less the greatest american band, much, much less the greatest band ever ...

And of course the Beatles are #1 by a fair distance over #2 where the debate can start.

Eh..... Beatles are so overrated. They were very good, but the fawning people do for them is over the top. I would put the Rolling Stones and Led Zepplin ahead of them. Some of the stuff that the Stones were doing in the late 60's early 70's was fantastic rock n roll and when it comes to Zepplin.... they were so far ahead of their time musically that the rock world is still trying to catch up

It's either Zeppelin or The Rolling Stones.

Neither of those are my favorite band of all time but as far as the generic answer for best rock band of all time it's one of those.

Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

Even the Beatles said they influenced and they worshipped them.

But they didn't last long enough so probably Rolling Stones which also copied and covered Buddy Holly to make it big like the Beatles did.

Stones had Not Fade away.

Beatles had Words of Love.

I honestly thought this was a Burt Reynolds troll thread when I first saw it.

Eagles? No.

Where they prostitutes? All these years I just thought they were runaways and groupies who couldn't handle their Quaaludes. The more you know...

At the "When Hell Freezes Over" reunion concert in the Superdome (1995-ish?) Henley started to give a lecture about the Walden Woods Foundation. Fans listened politely for about 15 or 20, maybe even 30 seconds. Then the booing started. Henley kept going and the booing got louder. Soon, it seemed like 75,000 people were all booing, you couldn't hear a word he was saying and he shut up. They started the next song and everyone cheered. All was forgiven.
