This series is done is three parts with each part over 2 hours. First part is almost three hours.
I have finished the first two parts.
1. They are very disorganized.
2. Lennon is a goofball and plays around all the time.
3. Yoko is joined with John at the hip.
4. Harrison is mostly ignored. His ideas are shot down.
5. McCartney is the (bad guy) for trying to keep them focused and saving the album.
6. The writing and creating is all over the place.
7. Things only improve when Billy Preston stops by.

I watched the first hour and left with a headache. The idea/jam sessions were an exhausting process.
Cool to see how they repurposed a bunch of Paul/John material from when they were kids.

The knock on the documentary is that it is an aimless disorganized mess. Sounds like the review was right.

I agree. Was really looking forward to this but the first episode is a slog to get through. I guess I was expecting more conversation and less band practice.

It is. If they had culled it down to 3 hours it would be much more watchable.
The best parts are the conversation and creation of certain songs. And of course the rooftop concert.

Watched part 1 last night and will be watching part 2 tonight. I've been in rehearsals like this where we're trying to flesh out song ideas but tangents get taken. The fact they'd go home and finish songs after working all day is just nuts. Macca would've been hard to work with, but that dude is amazing.

Could only get through the first hour and turned it off… the trailers made it look like there would be more interaction and goofing off.
It was them sitting in the same damn spot with Yoko the parasite.

I don't think the documentary is to blame. I think Jackson did the best he could in taking what I believe was 60 hours of footage, 57 of which had never been scene.
The Beatles themselves were highly unorganized. To me you would almost have to get away from that Circus to be able to finish a song or work on anything.
90% of the time they are playing bits of other music and making up goofy lyrics.
What it shows me and I know you can say this about several groups, but they have the songs that are solid and then rest are absolute duds and could have been written by a drunk guy in a bar.

Finished it this morning. It's incredible.
My take always
Yes, they were the best band ...ever. This will never be up for debate
Paul was really holding them together during this period of time
George and John wanted it to end.
John was a great guitarist-very underrated
Aside from George, the rest of them were still getting along.
Billy Preston was damn good.
When they quit bickering and put their BS behind them, they really gelled. See the rooftop for proof.
The sound audio on this film is somethings special

Yep
When they started playing on the roof my wife looked at me and said "wow it's like someone flipped a switch".

I’ve been messing with my dad about the Beatles and how they barely toured and that’s why I can’t respect them. This doc makes me look like an idiot. The stuff these guys are capable of is amazing. Pops knows what’s up.

I enjoyed episode 1, episode 2 was terrible and an absolute pain to get through. It was a rambling, disorganized mess, they could have shaved 1.5 hrs off of it and still got the point across.
I'll watch episode 3 tonight.

They stopped touring because they decided to start making the most important studio albums of all time. It's kinda pointless to tour when girls are screaming so loud through the entire set that they couldn't even hear themselves playing.

I was surprised at how John and Paul kind of shite on George and his songs. George was obviously ready to quit and go do his own thing and he was obviously frustrated.

The rest of the group didn’t seem nearly annoyed with Yoko as I was. Seems the band broke up because Paul and John were a songwriting team and George has fighting for himself for his creative release.

I just finished it, totally speechless, and I blew it off before reading the M/TV post about it.
That whole thing was magical, you need the long run time and first slow part to get one of the most amazing payoffs I've ever seen play out
You couldn't have planned a better climax.
Also, so happy this for the most part sets the record straight about their last days
I get why people, even fans wouldn't like it, but as a musician and pretty big fan overall I was just spellbounded.
There's so many crazy moments that are subtle but also major real time magic conjuring like the birth of Get Back seemingly out of nowhere, and then it culminating with that full song on top the roof with the cops trying to shut it down, fulfilling Paul's vision, which was the last ever performance.

It was interesting to see that despite what I’ve always heard, they were still having fun and laughing it up with each other during this time.

This was my favorite part of the whole doc. I loved how they would just jam out on tunes. They were literally an encyclopedia of rock n roll songs.
