So after you bought at the regular price for so many months, they were still making a killing, especially with most folks paying $20/cd.
You’re assuming we ever bought anything after getting the initial bundle.

Nothing like the feeling of getting that big box in the mail and sampling all those new cds. It was fun taking chances on artists across different genres you'd never heard of too.
Until you inevitably forgot to cancel. Then you'd start getting those shitty Artist Picks of the Month cds in at $20 a pop.

Yep. I probably subsidized a couple of y'all.
Finally started going thru my old LP collection from the 70s/80s over the weekend and cataloging it via Discogs. Quite a few with the Columbia House version. I always figured they found ways to cheap out on making those but I have a couple of "forgot to decline" duplicates of non-club records and they seem the same except for markings/text.

I remember getting a Toto album and it was broken. I called Columbia house and they sent me another one, without an argument. That was pretty surprising.

Nope, but I remember getting several 8 tracks for 50 cents or something ridiculous like that.
Can't remember everything from my first order, but Jim Croce, Grand Funk, The Ohio Players, Amazing Rythm Aces and ZZ Top were in there.

was a great way to build a music collection.
but, nothing replaces this.

It was best to do it as a 16 or 17 year old when they legally couldn’t hold you to the obligation of purchasing at regular price after the $1 promo.

Several times under several different names. I'd always forget to send those cards back (which of course they were counting on) so they'd send me a bunch of things I didn't want.
When I took too long to return them to sender, they'd sent a series of more an more menacing letters demanding payment. When one of the later form letters had an eagle picture at the top, you knew it was serious. (Even as a kid I knew it was still just them and I found the eagle amusing.)
