I'm in the market for a new strat and I went in to try some out. I originally wanted SSS strat but they had a HH American Pro and that thing sounds amazing. I know these are taking over for the American Standard but, is there that much difference in the two. I believe you can get a new American Standard for a 1k while the Pro will run about 1500.

My American Standard is from 2009 and it's in a dead heat for my favorite guitar ever. The difference for me is in the bridge; it has the forging-type saddles which makes it way more solid and smooth than usual for a typical strat. I'd recommend seeking one out that has that kind of bridge.

BTW: Does anybody know what the name for this type of bridge is?

I have that same bridge on my 84 standard. I have heard it called "the alloy bridge",but maybe that's not right?

the only new instrument im interested in is a rickenbacker 4003S reissue. but don't want to fork over $1400 for it.

I have only ever owned 1 new guitar, but I felt like I was getting a good deal. About 6 months later, that particular model doubled in price.

I just thought about it, and I've never owned a used guitar. I'm kind of stunned actually.

Which is absolutely nuts considering in my life I've probably spent 1000s of hours hunting down and playing used guitars, only to always end up buying new.

Lots of used amps and other gear, but no used guitars.

I've only bought one new guitar. It was a replacement for one that was stolen and my insurance covered it. But then the police found the stolen one and returned it. Now I have the evidence tag hanging off the headstock for some street cred.

I believe they call it the American Series Stratocaster Bridge. Recent ones have pop-in bars, earlier generations had screw-in bars.

Gotcha. I was actually fishing for something along the lines of a build descriptive name but most strats I see have a line of saddles like this:

I just never know what to call either kind. I mostly say either forging or bent plate. But thanks anyway.

I think those are called vintage saddles. I've also seen them called "CG" saddles. For the other ones, I believe if you just called them American standard saddles most people would know what you're talking about.

Personally I really like these Graph Tech String Saver saddles.

I guess if something ever happens to my 1977 Strat that I bought in 1980 I might consider buying a new one.

Leo Fender improved on the strat design with his G&L models.

Well, the added benefit is that they are sold by stores and not some sketchball that may or may not be the original/legal owner.

I'm not advocating always buying new, but there are some serious weirdos out there selling used instruments.
