What amp do you think would sound best with a Telecaster?

I have a G&L Telecaster that I play on a Peavey Bluesmaster.

I bought it twenty years ago because I loved the sound on R.E.M's Fables of the Reconstruction, and I knew that Page had used one on Led Zeppelin I.

What amps offer what different sounds?

It would be better to try to describe the sort of sound you're looking for. "Best" is extremely subjective.

I have 4 Fender Telecasters and 1 partscaster. Another one mid-build.

I love Fender tube amps with Telecasters. In particular, vintage silver face Fenders with reverb. The clean tone rings so smoothly. If you want a lot of clean headroom, Twin Reverb. If you want to get some nice 6V6 tube overdrive, go with a Princeton Reverb.

Get actual vintage if you can afford. If not, go the Fender hand-wired re-issues. If that's too pricey just the made in Mexico reissues are fine and sound great too.

Resale value is good on all the above.

Yes, I'm aware that there are a ton of amp builders that copy the Fender circuit and are cheaper. And there are boutique Fender clones that sound great too. I've just always preferred the vintage Fenders.

If you're talking combo amps, it would be very hard to beat the Vox AC-30, but I'd also be interested in hearing an Orange Crush Pro 120 Combo.

You're going to get a lot of "right" answers.

Fender pre-CBS blackface Super Reverb is my go-to.
Fender Deluxe Reverb
Vox AC-30

I pretty much only use a volume pedal for a clean boost when I play leads.

I thought Peter Buck played a Rick on most REM stuff.

I'm a huge fan of the Classic 30 then build your sound off of it with pedals if needed. Such a solid sounding amp it can really do it all.

I only ever read that he played a Rick 360 through a Fender Twin Reverb all through the IRS era.

I use a Peavey Classic 30 with my G&L. Can be found for cheap. I've got a Tone Tubby Alnico Red hemp cone speaker in mine, and it has a HUGE amount of clean headdroom for such a small sized amp. I'm kicking around the idea of a Fender Tone Master Twin Reverb.

I have a USA G&L Telecaster (Classic ASAT). I play it through a 25 year old 30 Watt Vintage Crate tube amp and a 2 year old AC15 Vox tube amp. I'm not saying those are best with a Telecaster. It's just what I happen to have. I also have a little Pignose that I use for practice sometimes.

If you have $$$$, I'm a big fan of blackface and drip edge SF Vibrolux Reverbs and Super Reverbs with Jensen C10s versus Oxfords.

If you have a strong back and need big headroom, you can never go wrong with a BF, drip edge SF, or early non-master-vol SF Twin Reverb, using stomps to get your OD and compression of choice.

If you don't have a strong back nor big headroom needs, there's a reason Deluxe Reverb and Princeton Reverbs from those eras are so sought out and are priced accordingly.

Keep in mind too, when you buy vintage amps, to budget in not only tube replacement but recapping, dryrotted speaker replacement or refurbishment, three-prong cable upgrade, etc., if it hasn't been done already. The costs can add up.

I will echo the Peavey Classic series amps as being incredible bangs for the buck in more modern eras. I'd take an old tweed 1990s Classic 4x10 over any amp Fender has made in the last 20 years, at least the modern Fender amps to which I've been exposed.

Would probably sound good with what I've been using.

..Minus my personal signal chain. And going easy on the gain.

I would match "like" for "like" - I like brighter amp tones with Teles and Strats, you can always dirty up the sound with a pedal if you decide to go that way for a particular song. So, I would go Fender or Hiwatt (depending on preference) for most Teles. You could drift over to a Supro and that would be the classic Led Zeppelin I sound with the Tele.

I am intrigued by your pairing of the G&L Tele with a Peavey - I always forget about Peaveys, but they definitely have tones to offer a fairly broad range of guitars - Super Strats, particularly.
