American Aquarium dropped a surprise album of 90’s country covers, “Slappers, Bangers & Certified Twangers Vol. One” today.
If you need to smile today, give it a listen!

2. “Some Girls Do” (Sawyer Brown)
3. “I Try To Think About Elvis” (Patty Loveless)
4. “She’s In Love With the Boy” (Trisha Yearwood)
5. “John Deere Green” (Joe Diffie)
6. “Wild One” (Faith Hill)
7. “Lost and Found” (Brooks & Dunn)
8. “Down at the Twist and Shout” (Mary Chapin Carpenter)
9. “Heads Carolina, Tails California” (Jo Dee Messina)
10. “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” (Toby Keith)

I don’t listen to a lot of country music, but I’ve downloaded this album based on your recommendation and will give it a spin, later.
I remember hearing all these songs while riding with my dad in his pickup, back in the day. This could be fun.

The faith hill cover and patty loveless cover are cringe. The Lost and Found cover was lacking. Queen of my double wide is the best on the album.
John deere green and should have been a cowboy were meh.

Agree on Queen of my Double Wide, it sounded the best of the ones I listened to. The other ones I listened to sounded heavy on the bass (particularly Lost and Found) in a way that doesn't really fit this style of music.

Definitely an up and down album. Not horrible, but not something I'd want to add to my rotation.
Queen is certainly the best track. I think Down at the Twist & Shout is the worst. The whole reason that song worked was because of BeauSoleil playing on the track with MCC. Without them (or at least the Cajun accordion/fiddle/etc. in general) you have a very pedestrian track.

Meh, I was excited as hell when I saw this pop up this morning on Spotify. Then I listened to it. Not my favorite collection of theirs.

Not bad, love all those songs although I guess I prefer the Hot Country Knights schtick when it comes to covers

Really fun cover project. BJ loves these songs. Only criticism would be I wish they switched up the arrangements more to make them their “own” and not do straight up covers.

Man, this record scratches me right where I itch. I cannot wait for the next installment. I feel like arrangements were changed up just enough.

Vol 2 will likely be some of his favorite songs he covered during quarantine. They *should* be touring Louisiana in a few months. New date for bandito fest will be announced if the festival is still happening.

Great idea, poor production. These songs sound like they were actually recorded inside an aquarium.

"New date for bandito fest will be announced if the festival is still happening."
I'm seeing June 26- June 27th. I can't find the line-up.
I assume it's worth attending, so I plan to be there.

That really seems like an odd list of songs to cover.

That is a list of songs that were hits for a week but stuck in your head for 25 years

He has a great interview with Elizabeth Cook if you have the Sirius app

Maybe stuck in yours, but not mine. They were all pretty good songs at their time, but there's not a single one of those that I would choose to pay to play on a jukebox in a bar now, or search for a video on youtube.
It seems that most of them were first hits, for each of the original artists, but each of those artists had much better songs. I'm wondering if most of them might have had the copyright lapse, and became public domain. That way you don't have to pay writer's royalties for use. I can see that happening with every one of those songs, because they all seem like songs that would likely never be covered. They were songs for a certain time, and seem odd choices to me.
