I love BJ and most everything that AA does, but I just couldn't get into this past the first listen.
I appreciate why he did it, but it just rings like he's taking the Sturgill Simpson route to make some extra change and didn't pull it off 1/4 as well.

Yeah, I've liked what I've heard from AA on their originals, and it seems to me, if your going to do an album of covers, you want to pick some really awesome songs, kick them up a couple of notches and get some attention with them. Even if they were just trying to do songs from the 90s, there were a whole lot of better choices.

It seems that most of them were first hits, for each of the original artists, but each of those artists had much better songs
ol Tob got a better one than should have been a cowboy?

Several in my opinion, and I'm not much of a fan of his.

I enjoyed the album. I really like the ‘John Deere Greene’ and ‘Heads Carolina, Tails California’ tracks.
I’ve interviewed BJ, sparred with him in person and on Twitter and we absolutely approach life in the completely opposite way, but he’s a great artist and I enjoy most of what he puts out. Glad there are other admirers here.

It sounds like a bunch of dudes that work in the maintenance department at the Livingston Parish Sheriff's office got together in the evening to get away from their wives and over the course of about 78 Busch lattes decided they'd record some music on a cassette tape. Singer was the guy that guy who sang at the prom in high school trying to get laid. Now he's married to Charlene who teaches Kindergarten at the local elementary and is a certified essential oil ambassador. He's a shitty singer but he's been working for the Parish for 19 years so he knows the ins and outs of keeping the fleet rolling. The drummer played the snare in high school and after losing 150 lbs with weight loss surgery, started working in IT at the Parish jail. His wife sells real estate (and essential oils). The bass player has been in an out of rehab since dropping out of school at 16. He still smokes pot all day, but since his uncle is the Parish President he keeps his job as the jack of all trades at the school board. He's not married anymore, but still gets along with his ex, even since she started dating his cousin (second cousin). He's decent at electrical work, and once backfed a generator to power the school board office cafeteria after a hurricane (they've since installed a natural gas generator paid for by an increased millage that no one knew to vote against because it was the only thing on a ballot in an off-cycle election Saturday).
Overall, there is not one song on the album that gets close to believable. It all sounds like a joke.

Queen of my double wide is the best on the album.
Which is a bummer because it's probably the one that needs a cover the least
I can't get into AA. On paper they're a band I'd love, but most of their stuff just lands flat for me and I make an attempt to get into them about every year.

They have lost me a bit recently but California was a song in the soundtrack to my 20s.

good song list, but their covers just make me want to listen to the original versions.

I like AA, but BJB is a complete lib cuck. Also, this album sucks IMO.
