I wouldn't say TP & The Heartbreakers were southern rock.
Just damn good americana rock

They are southern rock. And they were the only ones that were good at it. Instead of the cheesiness of bands like 38 special and lynyrd skynyrd, they were able to incorporate a lot of different genres like jazz to make it sound unique.

But ABB is not what I consider a Southern rock band
It's not all about you sir. The shutout on upvotes should tell you that you're wrong.

Sure, they spawned the genre.
So they spawned the genre but are not southern rock?
Hmmmmm......

The downvotes don't bother me. I lived through it, unlike most of the posters here. Nobody called ABB Southern rock during their prime. It wasn't until the later bands followed the path ABB laid out the term southern rock was even coined.
So,
y'all.
So,

Yea it definitely wasn't a genre when they started. Truthfully, it probably wasn't a genre until it was all packaged up for cd's in late 80s, early 90s by the suits.

I lived through it too and was a part of the industry.
You're totally missing the boat.

I mean... they're not the Grateful Dead... but they definitely jammed.
I saw them quite a few times throughout the 90s, and they melted my face frequently with their jams. They had a VERY different dynamic than the Dead, though. It often seemed like the musicians were dueling and wrestling for control with each other (though maybe that was just our psych-addled perception) instead of working together. Definitely a lot more of an aggro feel than the Dead... but they were really great live.

That is one of the things i really like about them, its nice to see people attack the jam with some ferocity. I like the dead a lot, but sometimes they were too laid back for my tastes (relatively speaking of course and only in comparison to other all time great bands)

Honestly I think it came down to both bands drug of choice.
LSD is long and drawn out, much like the Dead jams. I've read Pigpen didn't partake in lsd, which makes sense. He really was the balls behind the operation in that band.
Shrooms and blowcaine for the Brothers had them attacking jams a little bit more succinctly.

These southern rock threads always bring out the angry mouth-breathers.

There's exactly one thread on this board whose topic is suicide and death.
Maybe you should give anger a try rather than clinical depression, retard.

Tight. Did you learn that in drug school?
