Burton, I wasn't saying the ABB and GD are the same band...just saying that they are pioneers that created genres.

To be fair, an 8 minute instrumental jam isn't the most radio friendly song, regardless of genre.

Very true. In a perfect world Mountain Jam would be played on every FM station in America.

Southern rock bands generally start their careers with a couple of original songs about whiskey drinkin, heartbreakin' women, or just having a good ole time. Then down the road create shite renditions of other band's music and pass it off as "jams".

aka New Minglewood Blues by the Grateful Dead, the quintessential southern jam band.

I finished the sentence, dude. Don'y cherry pick.

"...in the sense that they spawned genres..." there was more to it, but whatever.

Also, I realize we got off to a bad start, but I think I know who your FP people are, so peace for sure...theyre good peoples.

Well, at least my family knows who your old man is and what he has accomplished, and I think I can piece together some folks you may be kin to.

We are from the same hometown. There aren't that many people.

I'm not sure if I hate you or want to be your best friend, Burt...which, I suppose, makes you a troll of the highest excellence.

When Berry Oakley died I think they shifted even more.

I believe most people think of them as southern rock due to Gregg... his solo 80s work and his earlier dealings with the Dixie Mafia are very southern rockish.

I agree. The early lineup was not Southern Rock. It was a jazz and blues fusion band, that rocked. Just because they influenced other bands from the South doesn't make them "Southern Rock" As the years progressed the picked up the Southern Rock label.

Another interesting question, is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Southern Rock?

That is a great question you pose. Petty is from Florida...surely that makes him Southern rock according to the logic displayed on this board.
