99% of bands that have been together that long are riding the nostalgia circuit and playing go thru the motions shows with forced enthusiasm. I don't even like phish but you have to respect and celebrate the effort they've made to do something special and new for their fans

You hit the nail on the head.
After 33 years, this band still plays 35-40 shows a year, and still manages to make even a regular show (not a festival or Bakers Dozen type event) interesting.
The amount of creativity that went into this run, done solely for the fans, is amazing.
Think of an average band after 30 years--most don't even make it to that point. Phish not only hit that mark, but seem to be getting better, while still selling out 20,000 seat arenas 40 times a year (and for still a relatively inexpensive ticket price).
Similarly, the Dead after 25 years, were on fire in 1990-91, and still growing in popularity, selling out stadiums as well

Wow, after they skipped this for the Jimmies show I thought it was gone for good. What a bustout.

Great YEM, and a killer Simple.
Loving Cup even rocked.
On the Road Again---man, the creativity never stops!

Tonight's Simple is pretty incredible. A funky synth led groove going to that guitar from 20-24 minutes that is some serious Trey hose and then a spacy theremin jam from Page. Good stuff
Solid YEM, fun encore and awesome bustout with Izabella in the 1st set, but that Simple is definitely the jewel of another great BD show
Sad it's over, hope they sound just as good at Dick's

So, it's OK to admit being a Phish fan again?
I probably should ask this later, after some of the hype dies down, but what do y'all think the top 2-3 shows were, objectively speaking? Not going by the setlist on paper, but the actual performance. I avoided listening to any of 'em, because I knew I'd probably curse myself for not being there, lol...but once the dust has settled, I'll probably download a couple of the top shows from that run.

How cool was that Vida Blue cover?
I squeezed in a Vida Blue show during Panic's '02 Tour at the Myrtle HOB. I really dug that album

My top 3 is probably:
7/25
7/26
7/28
In that order too. 7/30,8/2,and 8/6 are all good shows too, but basically every show has atleast 2-3 songs or jams that are worth hearing.

No real order for me at this point between these six. My head isn't working great at the moment. But all six of those are really good. Also the "off" shows each had good stuff like 8/5 set I and 8/1 II... I think - like I said, its all a bit muddled at the moment.

Rarely do I classify Trey's style as "shredding" but he definitely shredded the frick out of that YEM. Definitely a highlight for him in this era.

7/25, 8/6, and 8/2 are my favorites. I haven't listened to all of them all the way through yet. 8/2 was probably my favorite setlist. The 7/25 Lawn Boy was probably my favorite song of the run. Tough call between it, the Mike's, and the YEM though.

I'd thought of doing couch tour for a couple of shows, but there were too many distractions at the homestead. I actually tried scheduling my vacation around the same time, in hopes of catching a show or three, but I couldn't get it approved. So I decided to just wait 'til it was all over, then get some objective feedback, instead of trusting the "BEST SHOW EVAH!!!" chatter that often happens after any given show, lol...
