They sang Strawberry Fields Forever a capella. It's a lot easier to learn and perform a new song when you only have to memorize the lyrics and not the instrumentation. How many other new songs fit that bill? It's an impressive feat and very Phishy. But I thought there were some obvious shortcuts taken. I was more impressed by what they did with their own material. Some of the thematic stuff seemed a little forced, imo.

I'm not even really a jam band guy, but I pop over to XM29 once in a while -- while the hosts were acknowledging the no repeat feat, they were sort of hinting that it was bogus with 22 minute jams and other frickery.

Not too difficult to play without repeats when 61 songs of the repetoire are covers

They shoulda thrown in 'Terrapin Station' on August 1 for Jerrys birthday. Their version from 1998 from this date is pretty stellar. The crowd in the recordings is in awe. An awesome listen.

Learning someone else's music instead of only remembering their own seems like it would make it harder to do
The easiest method would just be to have low song counts in each set, but have really long "jams" of repetitive, mindless dribbles to fill the time.

It is awesome, but needs to stay as the only time played to retain its legacy.

Funny how the only people hating on Baker's Dozen are the former WSP bois converted to Bisco fans. Lmao

I'm not hating at all. I didn't listen to it except for the highlight jams (which were great) I just found that statement to be odd.

I typically agree. I like Phish staying away from the Deads catalog, and get the specialness of it Briton played once. But Jerrys 75th while playing the Bakers Dozen woulda added to the Terrapin legacy.
I'm not a huge Phish guy, and love the Dead, so it was also a selfish thought/idea I was hoping would come to fruition.
For now, I'll just listen to 8/9/98 encore and enjoy the moment.

well the best parts were stuff like 1999, you sexy thing and other covers which also got jammed

nce when do Phans prefer covers to jams?
Most phans don't realize that songs like cities and golden age are covers. They are pretty oblivious to music created outside of the hambland realm.

Roses are Phree is their best original IMO

Since when do Phans prefer covers to jams?

yea.. singing chocolate rain, strawberry fields, white winter hymnal, etc acapella must've been tough

Not to mention the Everything in it's Right Place which was pretty much Fishman singing the wrong lyrics, in the wrong pitch, while the instruments played basically something that sounds nothing like the actual song
I mean it was cool and whatever, but woof, that cover is terrible
I don't think the covers were that impressive, and outside of 1999 and You Sexy Thing that were actually jammed, are not the impressive part of Baker's Dozen
Them just playing 13 straight good shows is the impressive part

You Sexy Thing was a time machine to fall 1997. That funk so deep you'll drown in the hot chocolate.

ah yeah
It's no ASIHTOS jam, but its close. One of my favorite segments of the whole thing
And THAT SIMPLE BRO
