You get to take 3 albums from one band/artist with you. However, once you pick the band, the albums get drawn randomly out of a hat, and you have no say about it. Which bands would you feel comfortable enough to take that chance with? ANY official release gets thrown into the hat, except for greatest hits compilations.

I'm fully aware that Dead fans have a distinct advantage over most bands (since they have a shite-ton of live releases to decrease the odds of drawing an album like Greyfolded, lol), but what about anyone else?

I need more time to think, but off the top of my head, I'd consider either Zeppelin or the Police. Playing the percentages, I'd feel strongly about drawing a minimum of 2 solid picks.

Pink Floyd and Queen are a couple of my favorite bands, but I'm not sure I'd want to risk going with either of 'em. For example, I'd hate to pick Floyd, then end up drawing nothing but post-Waters albums, lol...I don't hate those albums per se, but they're certainly not the reason I'm a big fan.

Big fan, but you're clearly a bigger fan than me, lol...if I got stuck with Hot Space, Magic, and Made In Heaven, I'd be trying to build a new boat to get off the island post haste

Shoot. I was hoping that the twist on this desert island topic was that it was finally going to be interesting.

Maybe someday.

Yeah, no question the Blaze albums are the weakest of the bunch, but I actually think they're still decent enough IMO...yes, I know I'm in the minority when I say that...

I'm with you, brother. There's some really good songs on those two albums.

Steely Dan is a lead pipe cinch for me. There isn't a single album that I don't like.

Led Zeppelin is right there too.

I could take a chance on Pink Floyd because I'd have a good chance of getting at least one from the DSOM - Wall run.

Gov't Mule would be a pretty safe bet and so would Derek Trucks.

Pixies

ETA: just remembered they released a pretty mediocre comeback album in 2016. If that was included as a possibility, I’d probably switch.

Hate to repeat others, but Led Zeppelin and Steely Dan also.

The third might be the Beatles but if I had to hear Yellow Submarine for eternity I might take myself out with a coconut to the head on the island, and odds are I'd miss out on "Abbey Road".

So #3 is...Dan Fogelberg.

I think most of us are reading the OP wrong. We're not supposed to pick 3 bands. We're supposed to pick a band that if we chose 3 of their albums at random, we'd be OK listening to them the rest of our lives. Or at least until rescued.

Correct...if the chips fell where we ended up with three of the band's lesser albums (worst case scenario), we'd still be happy enough with the outcome.

Of course, some people might be bigger high rollers than others, willing to sacrifice a bad pick or two, as long as they got one of their favorites among the three...

Beatles and Stones were the first two to pop in but theres a lot of shite to wade through with the Stones. I mean you're talking about a band thats been around since the early 60s and the good stuff was from between like 67 and 74 and the rest is pretty crap. So they're out.

Beatles is a little closer to being one, but anything before like Hard Days Nights or Help! is not my cup of tea. If I got like Meet the Beatles and Beatles for Sale and shite for my albums I'd be pretty pissed.

Steely Dan is one right off the bat. Not a bad album. Total consistency the whole career.

If Phish includes ALL live releases thats too big of a risk. So believe it or not Phish doesn't make the list.

Next two are probably Radiohead and The Smiths. The Smiths because they just didn't release very much music. So you're bound to get some good stuff. Radiohead I like pretty much all of it, although I would be pretty pissed if I got King of Limbs.

So Steely Dan, Radiohead, The Smiths

Yeah that could be one, but I really don't like Syd Barrett

And post-Wall Floyd really doesn't do it for me either
