Louisiana, for me, was a coin flip between the Meters and the Residents. Or I can assign Neutral Milk Hotel to Louisiana and leave CO open for, ugh, the Lumineers. Or Apples in Stereo, the String Cheese Incident, or Big Head Todd and the Monsters.

Good list, but 311 is by far the biggest rock band from Nebraska.

Yes, but I deeply loathe 311 and I'm not putting them on my list. I already conceded to personal taste on the Eagles. But Omaha is home to one of the biggest emo labels in the country (Saddle Creek), so I went with the band that had some stronger local ties.
Also, I really hate 311. I'm not sure I mentioned that.

when i started my list, I was putting neutral milk hotel in LA. they formed in ruston, and frankly ruston has so little, why not give them neutral milk hotel. after that, ireally gave up and didn't reply as i had so few states.
colorado is tough. Big head todd is probably the biggest but frankly they suck. I wouldn't call the lumineers rock either. BTW, the singer lady lives a block away from me. i occasionally see her at the grocery store.

Mississippi: Blind Melon
Shannon Hoon was from Indiana and the band formed in Los Angeles.
Also, Levon might have been born in Arkansas, but the Band was Canadian, started in Toronto and was called "The Canadian Squires" before joining with Dylan.

And the other three members were from Mississippi. Wikipedia credited them to Starkville, which seems generous, but I was going by their and google's calls.
I know the Band is Canadian but I was really scratching the bottom of the barrel for Arkansas. Which brings us back to Evanescence.
And if we're including blues musicians, that likely changes Mississippi, Louisiana, and Missouri. Chuck Berry was close enough to the rock line that I teetered him over, but Buddy Guy is pretty much pure blues. And if we're just going pop musicians, we open up the doors to a lot of other kinds of acts.

The rest of the band, including the member who wrote their biggest hit, are all from Mississippi. They just moved to LA for exposure when they decided to give music a shot.

Roy Buchanan was born in Arkansas, but he grew up in California. I suppose Black Oak Arkansas might be the default winner. They formed in Arkansas, but relocated to Memphis before achieving any sort of success.
