Of all the remakes this one doesn’t make sense to me. There are no humans so it’s not really a “live action” remake in the least bit. The only thing they can do with this film is make money and ruin the original. There’s nothing to gain other than CGI updates. It was a perfect film.

Same can be said of Dumbo. I was disappointed that they re-cast the voices of all of the Lion King characters except for James Earl Jones. It makes sense that Matthew Broderick wouldn't voice Simba, but what's wrong with having Jeremy Irons voice Scar? He is white, so there's that....

There are humans in Dumbo. That's why Lion King makes no sense.

but this has gotten obnoxious redoing movies with white actors and replacing them with black ones. Blacks are 13% of the US population
The only thing obnoxious is the people who constantly bitch about it like it matters. Why do you care about the color of an actor's skin. It has no bearing on anything in this movie considering the part is playing a damned mythological creature.
If she's the best actor for the part then by all means cast her. Yet here you are getting upset because the shade they used in a damned animated movie 27 years ago (which again had no bearing on the story whatsoever) is different than the shade of the actual person playing the part.

Because nothing says Hans Christian Anderson and Scandinavian folklore like Zendaya!

Why does Disney?
It’s annoyingly obtuse of you to say this kind of thing is a matter of white people being overly concerned with race, when it’s just a reaction to the unmistakable effort by studios to make movies less white.
Disney should have to justify their unnatural agenda; we shouldn’t have to justify our natural reactions.

So in essence you beef isn't against the color of a person skin. It's with this agenda you think a corporation has you have no proof actually exists beyond mere speculation and your personal bias. Fair enough.
seriously "Unnatural" agenda so anything unwhite is unnatural? And that is "Natural" to dislike it. You said it there chief not me.

Zendaya has shown she can handle a musical role. Would you rather them do another Belle and cast a pretty but terrible singing white girl?
She did well in Greatest Showman, she has shown she can handle the role and is a big name. Who would you cast?

They couldn't possibly be thinking of casting her b/c she's very popular with people in her age range that this film is being made for. It has nothing to do with her already having a hit show on the Disney Channel or the fact that she has singles that have gone platinum on the music charts. It really is unnatural for a movie studio to pick a very popular famous person with success in music for a musical who their tv division has worked.

She did a great job in Greatest Showman, both acting and singing. That said, I don't think that you should assume Disney's only other option is a white girl who can't sing. I'm sure there are plenty of young white actresses who can sing. If they cast her as Ariel, I'm curious what they'll do with Ursula.

You know what disney's agenda is? making F'ing money. If shes popular with the kids (their target audience, not your adult grown arse) then their gonna do it.

No I wasn’t saying that.
It would also be unnatural to have an agenda that led you to replace beloved black characters with white ones. That’s not a natural thing to do.

no more unnatural than casting someone with a different hair color or eye color or height or foot size. I'm pretty sure mermaids are more progressive than us. Their only race is mermaid.

You honestly believe that their agenda doesn’t include “social justice” goals?
If they could make billions off of a movie that glowingly promoted the KKK, you think they would do that?
You don’t think that, because you know that Disney, like all companies, is influenced by the beliefs of the decision-makers, sometimes even when it goes against their money interests, and ALWAYS when a decision would align with their moral leanings while not harming the bottom line.
