Ever pay attention to any thread about commercials with the constant bitching about interracial relationships?

I agree with you, in principle, but plenty of people don't.

Yes, I have. Woke specifically refers to social justice issues, being aware of them, participating in activism, etc., etc. Just showing an interracial couple isn't a woke thing, just like a mixed couple in a movie isn't woke. If anything, interracial dating is anti-woke, seeing as the social justice types aren't particularly keen on mixed race couples.

I'm definitely right-leaning, and I watched it. I thought it was a pretty funny movie and laughed out loud in a couple of instances. It wasn't great, but I wasn't expecting that. I also thought the movie made fun of both sides of the spectrum, and pretty evenly at that.

This is the how I feel about it. It does have some woke tones but even some of the woke stuff is funny because it kind of makes fun of some of it in a way. Idk even as a right leaning person I thought the movie had some pretty funny moments.

I know I am in trouble when I agree with breibart . Cant even talk about the movie without ranting and getting mad . Jonah Hill is so far gone . I mean he has the world on a string and all he does is cry. I can tell by the baggy eyes that the weed is getting him, Its bad for depression. I know he hates people commenting on his appearance. Thats fair ,but you have to know its part of the job as a celeb . He could retire and still be rich. The podcast bit was good , but none of that movie was funny for me . Eddie Murphy was so annoying ,because it came off so fake . Anthony Anderson's character on Blackish is much better at getting white people to take a look at privilege and systemic racism , and its actually funny.

Which one do you think would be easier to explain if your kid repeats it in public out of nowhere?

So we have the reviewer saying this:

Comedy only works if you stretch reality. But reality is the key. If the audience doesn’t believe the characters are real, they won’t laugh. Why? Because truth is funny, fake is not.

quote:

Nobody, and I mean nobody in You People, is anywhere near real. They inhabit this movie for only two purposes: 1) to fire off sitcom-level punchlines and 2) to deliver the Woke Message. Not only are these characters lacking an inner life or even the sense of an inner life, but you also cannot picture them living any kind of life when the camera is not on them. They are like those Westworld robots who only power on when it’s time to perform.

Indicating he didn't find it funny. But then we have this:

quote:

I'm definitely right-leaning, and I watched it. I thought it was a pretty funny movie and laughed out loud in a couple of instances. It wasn't great, but I wasn't expecting that. I also thought the movie made fun of both sides of the spectrum, and pretty evenly at that.

Plus other posters who found it much more balanced and actually funny, and these folks are right-leaning.

So... is it possible that the reviewer was looking very hard for a reason to dislike it?

i made it about 15 minutes.

the movie could have actually been OK, but i heard at least 25 hip hop culture references in less than 20 minutes. chill with that. plus the jewish guy, big black woman podcast combo thing and their banter just made me

eta: jonah hill really rubbed me the wrong way from the get go . eddie murphy was funny though.
