frick the parents, they wouldn't be in the relationship, they should have zero input into it.

Meh. This is about as unrealistic as some sort of prohibition "ruling out" the other way. The most significant people in any long-term relationship are, in order:

1. The children that result from that relationship

2. The parents of those in that relationship

Now, it does vary and perhaps all my close family relationships skew this to a considerable degree, but I cannot imagine how the parents (opinion of the significant other and his/her family) don't factor into it when you're talking about a lifetime of Holidays, dropping the kids at grandparents, shared life events, tragedies, triumphs, etc.

It's just crazy (although I would agree with you that they shouldn't have veto due to bullshite, 19th Century notions about immutable characteristics outside a person's control that has nothing to do with character, integrity, love, value as a human being, etc.)

Yeah one of my best friends is a black woman. She dated a white guy and it was only black people that had an issue with it.

Nothing unrealistic about it. I would say that the most significant people in any long-term relationship are the people in the relationship, followed by the children. Parents are a distant third, particularly if they have an issue with the relationship along racial lines, which was the scenario I responded to. Others, family or not, are non-factors.

I mentioned that my parents would have had an issue with me being in an interracial marriage earlier in this thread. I never avoided an interracial marriage, but it wasn’t in the cards. They said I’d do best to marry somebody like me across the board and they’d be more at ease with it. Didn’t appreciate the opinion then and even moreso now.

I married a white conservative Christian girl from rural Texas and I still have tons of issues with my parents. We get along but it’s far from a good relationship.

a-hole parents are going to be a-hole parents.

My wife's brothers married and had kids with white girls so it was never an issue for her parents. One of my mother's boyfriends after my father died was a black retired Marine Corp drill instructor so she didn't care. The world being what it is, if you're going to be in an interracial relationship, you pretty much have to be prepared to not give a shite what other people think about it anyway. They're all judging you.

There's some truth to this. People stick together tribally and it probably does makes it easier for all involved. But it's not very tactful to spit that out to mixed race couples. Obviously, it's going to come across as bigotry, which it most likely is. It gets rationalized to you as something like "We want what's best for you" or "We just want you to be happy" but it's really about their comfort with the relationship, personally and socially.

Just finished it. I understand that the protagonist has to play the skittish, trying to impress and downplay your flaws submissive aw shucks type of character to the father-in-law in these movies. But that’s not really how it works. Me and Eddie Murphy would’ve been cool if I was in that role, but if not, then that’s a him problem. You either get on board with my shite, or I ain’t gotta see you till the holidays

On the other side of the coin, I think just one quick conversation with the Jewish parents were you say, hey, this pandering and looking down on me bullshite ain’t gonna fly would cut the mustard

This trailer is worse than the first one. Hollywood should stop trying to make interracial romantic comedies.

I watched Guess Who? the other day because I had never seen it. Pretty solid movie. Bernie Mac is great in everything.

Eddie Murphy was not funny in this movie. He didn’t make me laugh once in this movie. Maybe he wasn’t supposed to be, I don’t know. He was way funnier playing the Donkey in the Shrek movies. I don’t recommend this movie.

I don’t think he was supposed to be funny in this movie.

I couldn’t finish this movie. Way too cringy with racism and stereotyping , but not done in a funny manner. This movie tried way too hard.

Haha, you have 10K post on a message board that is chock full of racism and stereotypes. But you couldn't make it through a Jonah Hill flick. SAWFT!

Sucked.

That’s not how shite is where I’m from. I have an interracial family, and we don’t behave that way, never have. That’s that little bubble they live in out in Cali & that’s what was being portrayed.

Worst movie I’ve ever watched with Eddie Murphy.

Don't think Hollywood is going to greenlight a movie titled, You People in Mississippi.

I watched last night.

It sucked. I couldn't finish it. Three times I wanted to turn it off but tried to push through. I think there was 20 or 30 minutes remaining when I threw in the towel.

I love Eddie. I love Duchovny. I love Julia. I like Jonah.

And being Netfilx, I knew there's be woke shite everywhere so I didn't hold that against it. I went in knowing.

The cast was fine. They delivered their funny moments and zippy lines.

It's hard to give a fair appraisal because I didn't watch to the end, so I'll give an unfair appraisal. The whole movie is a good setup for a movie, but never really gets going into a plot to speak of.

Without spoilers, the best I can compare it to is some kind of Woke version of Meet the Parents but more "extra". More "in your face!" but not necessarily in a good way.
