X-men: Dark Phoenix (Spoilers/Discussion) Thread.

Thread started because some idiot (I me) had to.
TLDR: This movie was terrible, only go watch it if you are interested in seeing how bad a movie can be.
The good: Fassbender and McAvoy are good actors, and there's a nice scene with the two of them at the end.
The bad: Most of the rest. Characterization was inconsistent to terrible, the villain motivations were barely touched on and the X-group going from heroes to fugitives overnight was way too quick. What was the moral of this story supposed to be?
The ugly: Mystique should never have been that important of a long-term character, and unfortunately, Sansa Stark couldn't provide depth to Jean Grey -- so much so that I really didn't care at all about what was happening to her. The characters in this movie generally had the emotional stability of teenage girls.

I think you can enjoy this movie if look at it as a standalone movie. Forget about the other movies and comics. Mystique was really the only bad part of this movie.

The handling of Mystique in the newer X-Men movies is why I checked out on these a while ago.

The other characters trying to act like prof x was this monster because he tried to suppress a little girls memory of killing her mom was stupid

Worst thing to ever happen to the franchise was JLaw catching fire and the studio idiots deciding to make her the flagship of the series.

Overreaction, it's not great but it's not bad either.
Disclaimer: I enjoyed Apocalypse as well. People are expecting too much from comic movies.
End Game was mediocre at best, and is getting sucked off.

Apocalypse the character was poorly done. The movie was ok overall. One thing Marvel can really improve on is the poor makeup of the last two movies and the cheap looking sets. Other than, they are mostly ok. Dark Phoenix would be in the top half of Marvel movies for me, maybe even top 10. The train scene was really great.
Anyone know the name of the dreadlocks guy or the psychic black woman? Dreadlocks guy was kind of neat.

Sophie Turner is a terrible actress. She's been terrible on GoT for the past few years. She's completely wooden, she just reads her lines like a robot.
Believe it or not I actually thought she did a much better job when she was younger. Young Sansa actually showed emotion occasionally and came across way more interesting. As she got older she seemed to just get worse as an actress.
She has no charisma and is not a great actress, she has no future as a big time actress. She'll get small parts here and there going forward but it's over for her as a lead, at least in any movie with a budget.
If Hollywood can't make Emilia Clarke happen they sure as hell can't make Sophie Turner happen.

Why exactly? I also thought EG was an average film. Does that mean I'm going full tard?

Clarke turned in her best GoT performance this past season despite a shite script. I think she’ll rebound on the big screen in the right role.
Turner however... you’re correct. Really bland acting. Milk toast acting. The only time she showed emotion was a scene or two with Reek/Theon and the Jon reunion. Outside if that I’ve never been swayed by any of her acting,

You’re full retard if you think end game and apocalypse belong in the same breath

Well, you're talking six syllables, so I doubt I'd get it all in the same breath.

Yeah the turns like that really annoyed me.
X-men went from heroes to monsters overnight (because of the one police incident).
Mystique and Beast quickly turn on Prof X because he tried to suppress Jean's dark memories. Also, I would have thought he would have provided some amount of counseling about that over the years instead of just letting them stay suppressed.
Also, who were the shapechanging alien villains, all I got was that they were the remains of some empire.

No, I think defending TFA, TLJ excessively on here (I stand behind it to this day), GOT final season, and liking most video games people hate did that long ago.
you obviously haven't followed my posts

Watched it last night. Man, I do not understand why there's so much hate for this film. I thought it was a solid comic book film. I really enjoyed a lot of the action scenes. McAvoy and Fassbender remain some of the best casting in a comic book franchise.
Negatives, I would say Chastain's character is completely useless. Some of Jean Grey's acting was cringe. Overall though, I had a good time with it.

Finally saw this film.
I kept waiting for it to suck, it never did. Giving it a 21% RT score is ridiculous.
I suppose that if you’re an X-Men purist from the late 70’s, 80’s, you’d have your problems. But as an installment in this franchise full of great and horrible movies, it’s about average and a decent epilogue to the movie saga.
Being able to see the X-Men as actual superheroes was a nice change and a big smile. From there it became your average, entertaining superhero pic.
I’m glad that they didn’t end it with a complete letdown like Apocalypse.
