And these same people that warned of U.S. savagery and brutality were allies with the Nazis.

If any of you have ever seen the Taffy 3 "Dogfights" episode...the sea battle they just set up is the fight that takes place off Samar-Taffy 3 is the task force that the USS Samuel B. Roberts was a part of.

That tiger shark encounter sounded intense.

That would be hell. Stranded at sea worried about Japanese attacks. No food, no water. And to top it all off, fricking tiger sharks were attacking people.

The part of the interview about having to cut loose one of their shipmates to the sharks so that they might survive a few moments longer was quite unnerving.

Series ends tomorrow night. Okinawa and The Battle of the Bulge tomorrow at 8, then Okinawa's end and the end of Hitler's rule over Europe.

I was stationed in Okinawa in 1994-1995. Very much looking forward to this.

Does anybody else wonder if their grandpa is in some of this footage? Some of the shite these men went through and accepted is unreal - especially considering 10 years earlier most of this technology was unimaginable.

My gramps told me a story once about being in Belgium during the winter. He said they would dig a hole to sleep in and German tanks rolled right over them once. I would have freaked out.

Watching the Battle of the Bulge tonight hoping to see him in there somehow. That would be just the best thing ever for me. To see Grandpa in his younger days in action. Doing his duty, something he did not talk much about. My Dad called me last night all ready for tonights episode. Battle of the Bulge or shortly after is where my Grandpa came face to face with a German on a staircase. No firearms, just their knives. Grandpa won that battle.

Damn, sounds like that scene in "Saving Private Ryan". Give your gramps a big thumbs up and thank you from me!

my father couldve been in the footage of the B-17s. He was in that 91st bomb group they showed and they also showed his base in Bassingbourn, England. The call signs on the side of the bombers were from his group too.
