I’m over 50 and honestly didn’t think anyone listened to the radio anymore.
I thought it was all podcasts and streaming music.
I rented a moving van recently and the radio was set to a station that seemingly only played advertisements. If that’s representative of modern radio, I doubt there’s enough in common with wkrp.

This is why a current day wkrp could work… original show was about a struggling radio station trying to stay afloat. Probably a common occurrence in the radio industry these days for any independent channel.
to the OPs question of a “revamp”, it would seemingly have to be the same station as in the original - WKRP.

What time travel movie are you referring to?
Totally Killer, (I think it’s on Prime)
And yes, it is non-stop woke-fest bashing the 80’s. Too bad, because it had a good cast and decent time travel story line.

I find Hot Tub Time Machine 1 to be about as good a time travel movie as you will get this side of Back To The Future.

Thanks. That was it. It was obviously forgettable despite the favorable reviews.
Twenty minutes in there was nothing but repetitive jokes about how backwards the past was...and the female lead felt so uncomfortable because the 80s had no safe spaces.

No. It would have to be set in a podcast studio and that would just be boring as hell and not as good as a pod that you'd listen to anyway.

Didn't the remake in the early 90's fail spectacularly?

The original was about as perfectly cast as one could get.
This is the key for a successful sitcom, assuming competent to good/great writing. You have to nail the chemistry of the cast, and a lot of times that’s just dumb luck. I don’t think the premise matters all that much. It just serves as a backdrop to put characters into situations that every day people can relate to. The right cast with good writing could absolutely work at a modern day radio station in Cincinnati. Or just about any other place you put them.
But nailing that magical gumbo and actually being given enough time for it to cook is the hardest part. Especially today with so much content. Even fantastic shows with amazing casts don’t find audiences for whatever reasons. But I don’t think not being able to relate to radio stations would be one. I’ve never known anybody that worked in the paper industry, but The Office killed it. Premise is overrated when it comes to quality of the show. Now revamping old IP is a good idea these days for at least getting eyeballs on it with so much content competition. But after that, it’s all cast chemistry and writing that will determine the quality, if not whether it’s a hit or not.

We're no longer living in a world where the soundtrack would be The Who and Pink Floyd. I doubt I'd watch a WKRP where the background music is Taylor Swift and Post Malone.

Radio stations are now automated. Sales people work from home. The cast would include Mr. Carlson and an IT/engineer character.
And once a quarter a few dudes in suits would meet in an office and decide which 12 songs they would play on a loop.

it was created by Hugh Wilson and based on his experiences at a small radio station in Atlanta
it was produced by MTM Enterprises and had the Mary Tyler Moore Show work place dynamics
not sure this premise could be repeated today, maybe a large ensemble about a podcast but that type of show has been done to death
