DCEU films each need to make a billion to cover their budgets.

Uh yes they do considering the massive budgets DC puts up for those movies, especially around 500 million for BvS.

BvS didn't make enough money to cover their budget and came nowhere near close to touching a billion when those two are the most famous comic book characters ever.

Dude, just be happy you finally have a good DCEU movie in Wonder Woman but that doesn't mean you're justified into getting into a dick measuring contest with marvel who's still making better movies and making more money.

This is fake news. The actual net budget for Batman v. Superman was right around $250 million.

Ok RollTide you know enough about the film industry for me to rightfully call you a liar here. Sure that's their base budget, but you're forgetting everything outside of the literal production. You know the marketing budget is typically around the same as the production budget. You know that studios forecast what their movies are going make and then make other movies accordingly to the profits. Sure they're not cancelling the DCEU, but what did they have to put on hold due to this? There's merchandising and toys, which I am honestly unfamiliar on how successful they were.

Stop playing dumb, RollTide. As long as you've been posting here, I know that you're aware of this. I'm not going to insult your intelligence, so please don't insult mine.

So far the DCEU is off to a better start, in terms of box office intake, than the MCU was at the same time in the franchise's history

Considering it was the MCU that blazed the trail upon which the DCEU now shits, that is not surprising.

At the beginning of 2008, audiences were probably just as interested in Iron Man as they were with Superman.

I don't care about all the DC vs Marvel arguing or how much the movie cost vs how much it has made. I saw WW today and I have seen most of the Super Hero movies and I enjoyed WW as much or more as any of the other SH movies I have seen. It is a well made movie that I very much enjoyed watching. Great main character, great supporting cast and some pretty good villains.

Indeed. The MCU must always be placed on a pedestal because it reigns supreme. Never mind the fact that Phase 3 of the MCU has been mediocre to say the least. Of the three films released so far (Civil War, Dr. Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), I haven't particularly cared for any of them. Ant-Man was the last good film in the MCU.

Reading through this topic and had to stop when I got here. I was with you for the most part, but to me Phase 3 has had 3 of my favorite MCU movies to date. They just keep upping their game IMO. To each their own though.

You can talk about quality all you want, but every single DCEU film has been a box office success so far.

That depends on one's definition of success. Thanks to overseas markets, nearly every big budget special effects movie will make back what it spent. China is the reason World of Warcraft made money - and you would need a VERY liberal interpretation of "success" to define that movie as one. Still, Suicide Squad did well - but not as well as hoped by the studio. It just wasn't a good movie (writing wise), and the best character was probably Captain Boomerang.

Suicide Squad owes a lot to a strong CAST (Will Smith and Margot Robbie), but is hampered by incoherent writing and plot.

If you measure the DCEU as budget vs intake, then yes, every movie has been a success.
If you measure the DCEU vs the MCU, then their movies have under-performed. A movie with Batman and Superman getting blown out by Captain America's Civil War is a testament to that. Superman and Batman are two of the 5 biggest properties in comics, and they had Wonder Woman in the movie as well - but couldn't top Cap vs Tony, with a small cameo by Spidey.

A billion. It was confirmed above. If DCEU movies don't make a billion each, they're failures.

Once you accept this meme as fact you can move on to enjoy life.

Not at all. Not every MCU movie makes 1B either.

Pics that involve MULTIPLE brand names should, though. Notice I never said Man of Steel should have made the same coin - only Batman v Superman.

Jesus, man, this is a bellwether event for comics movies.

It's a good thing WB let a property be good again. Let's see what happens now.

You're also forgetting things like tax deductions that bring the cost of the movie down a peg. If Batman v. Superman was a flop I'm sure we would have heard about it by now. A box office disappointment? Sure. But I'm not buying the $500 million budget nonsense. At most it cost $350 million. At most.
