Wonder Woman 1984’ Review: I Wish This Were a Better Movie

Patty Jenkins’ sequel is a well-intentioned but sloppy punch against Trumpism.

quote:

Vanity Fair

Jenkins... doesn't totally fail her own premise. She does let it get awfully messy, though, on her way to a climax that tries for an emotional resonance it hasn't quite earned.

quote:

Daily Telegraph

Director Patty Jenkins has followed that original film... with something much longer, cornier and wobblier, but which is energised with a streak of pure movie-star enchantment that recalls the sparkly-eyed uplift of the Christopher Reeve Superman films.

Director Patty Jenkins masterfully mixes thrills and social satire, but doesn't quite nail the grand finale

Wonder Woman 1984 is a bright and hopeful adventure that pays loving homage to the superhero movies of yesteryear. Our review:

THR

There's lots to love in Patty Jenkins' WONDER WOMAN 1984, even if it doesn't quite escape the sophomore trap of convoluted over-plotting. Still, I'll take that invisible plane flight, thanks. My review for @THR

THR's #WonderWoman1984 review: "There's still a lot to love" but "As talented as both Pascal and Wiig are, neither actor is given the scope to have much fun with their characters"

#WonderWoman1984 REVIEW - no spoilers!

This is such a different film from the 2017 movie it will give you whiplash!

But if you can appreciate what makes Wonder Woman such a unique hero, you will love this movie!

#PedroPascal is MVP

Vox

Wonder Woman 1984 is a better rom-com than superhero movie

Wonder Woman 1984, for better and worse, feels like three Wonder Woman movies wrapped into one.

I prefer Wonder Woman to Wonder Woman 1984. But I also much prefer seeing filmmakers take new, big swings with sequels and that’s definitely what Patty Jenkins and co. do here. Not everything adds up, but the value of selflessness, love and compassion do shine through. #WW84

The most honest review. The rest are sycophants.

Don’t care about reviews. Gal Gadot dolled up in skimpy WW attire is enough for me to watch.

That said. I’ll enjoy it I imagine, for other reasons.

I imagine it will be perfectly fine. Not great. Not wonderful. But perfectly fine much like the first movie was.

That is fine. At this point DC doesn't need grand slam home runs. They need to get on base.

I’m so happy to report that #WW84 is an absolute blast from start to finish. An exceptional compliment to the first film, it’s stuffed w/ heart, hope, love, action, romance & humor. @PattyJenks, @GalGadot & team delivered one of DC's best sequels.

Great review!

Yesterday I saw Wonder Woman 1984 at home & it was everything I needed & more. The movie is hugely ambitious, incredibly exciting, and full of much needed hope. It's also very long, to a fault at times, but mostly it reminded me how wonderful a big blockbuster can make you feel.

My local Regal cinema is still closed, until further notice.

I liked the first WW movie, for lots of reasons. I'm skeptical this is as good as advertised though. The studios NEED it to be well received, no doubt. Not sure the hype from these shill sounding reviews are legit.

If it's showing near me, I'd like to check it out in a theatre.

Copy and paste reviews like the first one. Everyone acted like it was amazing, when in reality it was as entertaining as a middle of the road Marvel flick.

I liked it all the way up till the last act. I do think it was a little overrated. It was a decent movie but not this all time great superhero movie.

Similar in many aspects to the Captain America film. Big difference is she was born with power and he was given it due to his character. And the love interest crashes the plane instead of the superhero.

They sound like the exact types of comments that RLM makes fun of in the Nerdcrew videos.

So this is weird.

AMC is the only local theatre chain that currently is open.
I thought AMC went bankrupt, or some such.

Yet Regal, which is far better, is still closed??

What the frick ?

Seems tickets are available for Christmas Day, for about 13$. Far better deal than signing up for HBO Max.

* wow... 3 AMC employees downvoted me *

Losers .

Which is almost every comic book movie ever made. So no hard feelings there.
