I'm still pissed about the can of worms this a-hole opened up with Laura Derns hyper jump suicide.. I was happy abiding by certain rules and unknowns regarding the technology but this shite stain just brought forth a big turd and dropped it on us and these arse hat reporters/bloggers/reviewers don't even see it, instead they label the movie intellectual in response

In no movie prior to this one has Leia been a force user. Force sensitive? Maybe. Force user? No.

But it may have just kicked in on instinct.

There are a lot of difficult suspensions of disbelief that were introduced into the first film that really can't be solved now after this movie, specifically Rey's inexplicably expert use of the force despite no training. Anakin, Luke and Kylo all needed training. Rey has had none. They tried to explain away the fact that she held her own against Kylo in the new one by saying Kylo was all unbalanced after killing his dad, but then she held her own again against him in this one.

Overall it was a very enjoyable movie that explored a lot of character. Kylo is now a round, well thought out villain.

the problem is that TLJ was not "a lot of fun"

it was very boring for most of it

even the interesting parts (like rylo v. rey) end up ruined by stupid fights only included to have lightsaber fights + new toys

That's the kind of thing that makes me think they did this on purpose. I think any one of us in this thread could come up with a better idea than that, and they have several overpaid "artists" handling this.

yeah this movie completely rips apart what the OT was/is...on purpose

so people will proclaim it's so deep and "intellectual" because it rips apart the universe, but they miss a really shitty movie underneath

He also fully absorbed the destructive energy from a direct bowcaster blast. I say absorb because hits from the bowcaster were shown to launch someone back 10 feet.

Did she actually duel Kylo in TLJ? He obviously doesn’t want to hurt Rey.

There is no maybe to this. It’s shown at least three times.

Plus, was Rose down there just to guard the escape pods? She says she’s stopped others from evacuating. Seems like the pods should’ve been better guarded than just her. And now they’re unguarded when Rose goes on adventure.

Ok, a different tact here.

What's the point of all this? Why have the Resistance leader not share the plan with the commander of the fighter/combat wing, during a military engagement? Poe might not understand the logistics of a cruiser in battle, but if you ever need to launch the fighters again, he's the man. Maybe they could provide cover for the pods, it's at least a consideration.

Similarly, why do you have to guard the lifepods from deserters, and have a mutiny occur, in your film? To make the leader look underestimated and not respected, and shame the doubters (in film and in the audience)?
If so, why have said leader fail so utterly and incompetently? Poe was right to mutiny, the leaders he attempted to overthrow got EVERYONE killed. Not at once, but with every single move.

Poe's lone act bought them time to leave the planet's orbit, and eliminated the ship with the single biggest cannons in the fleet. They DON'T escape orbit without him, and they don't last in the chase with the Dreadnaught using it's guns, which are bigger and have greater range and power.

Their act of not scattering in the first jump led to the chase. But apparently only one ship is currently tracking them, so that suggests only one ship is tracked when they jump... everyone else gets time to get away.

Medical ship, first to die... captain's on board. Hey dude, abandon ship 10 minutes earlier, tell a droid to fly it in lightspeed into Snoke's flagship, and board a lifeboat.

Hey, Finn and some dumb bitch we told to stay out of the way just left... and nobody left formation in the First Order fleet. Leia and Purple need to discuss the possibilities this presents. Senior officers are excluded, but ask for volunteers to make a dash for help, or to, you know, keep the movement alive? If they also get clear as Finn did, there's a chance.
Oh, did I say senior officers of the Resistance are excluded? Wait up a sec... someone gave the order to guard the lifeboats and stop deserters by force. Maybe the leaders want that option for themselves. You peons die as I say to, we're going to "inspect the life boats" now. Adios, suckers!

Hell, having a mutiny in respond to your leadership is the least thoughtful and intelligent message that could be imparted. Reeks of incompetency and lack of trust.

You could have the same actors, same circumstances, and change it just a little, get the same result, and it would be far more thought-provoking and respected.

Poe chafes at being left out of the loop, but doesn't mutiny.
Purple calls him into the bridge again, and the command staff is assembled. She speaks quietly, and reveals her plan:
It's been an honor and a pleasure to serve with you all, we've considered all options, and this is what is left- you will assemble your units into the escape pods and whatever light vessels still have fuel, and make your way to safety as best you can. There is an old Rebel base on a nearby planet, that seems to be the nearest location you might gain a defensible position. I will set the ship to autopilot, and gather essential materials that must not fall into the First Order's hands.
Poe, I need your full cooperation on this- you will provide a covering screen as best you can, and wait for me to join you. You must go now and prepare your crews. Do not wait for me, I need you there for when I exit the ship.
May the Force be with you.

And when everyone has left the ship, we get this video chat:
Poe- Admiral, where are you? We can't wait here forever, they will spot us soon.
Purple- Commander Poe, the Resistance is in your hands, I will buy you the time you need to survive. This is the only way.

Comscreen goes blank, the ship wheels around, we get the First Order's reaction "What are they doing? They're firing up the hyperdrive engines! SHOOT IT DOWN-"
-boom-

It renders all previous and future space battles useless.. Hyper space technology has been around for ions and all of sudden she has this sudden eureka moment.. why didn't they do this to the Death Star or for that matter.. why would you even need a Death Star when you can just hyper jump huge masses at a planet... Its bullshite and opens a box that makes no sense within the Star Wars universe..

No.

She didn't do all that well in the first one. People who say that either didn't watch the movie or didn't pay attention.

He beats the shite out of Finn and then he beats the shite out of Rey and it isn't until he tells her to concentrate and use the force that she gets a couple hits in and then the ground splits between them.

It is the most intellectual Star Wars and y'all are all fricking crazy. Only issue I had was retconning Leia to be a force user, but it actually makes sense that she would be to a small degree.

Finn should've died though

Because A New Hope, Return of the Jedi, the Phantom Menace, and The Force Awakens plots can literally be solved with this.

ANH, RotJ, TFA- just use lightspeed to wipe out these Death Stars. It’s established that things going light speed can penetrate the shields. Why not just launch massive ships at it at lightspeed?

And with TPM, just launch a ship on autopilot towards the droid control ship. It’s just retarded.

I'd argue trade disputes and the senate in TPM is more intellectual than crank calls, mama jokes, and slap stick humor.

R1 would also be solved by this.
