He'll be dead and buried in that stupid hat of his, and someone may take over and finish the books. At this point, I really do not care how the books end.

D&D said Bran becoming king was Martin's idea, which would make me not give a shite about the last books. Worst possible endgame. I would prefer a Shakespearean ending where the fricking Duke of Orange or some shite shows up out of nowhere and sets everything to rights.

The Mad Queen storyline would be setup better, but it could hardly be setup any worse.

Would be interested to see the sideplots tied up, but not in service to a main plot as bad as Season 8.

The actual end result of the final season wasn’t necessarily bad. The issue eas that it was so rushed that the plots and characters had no time to develop and establish themselves. Bran never had a chance to earn his place as King. We get like two scenes to make Dany go from protecting the innocents to nuking surrendering men and civilians. Jamie has an excellent character arc and then 180’s off screen 10 minutes later.

These things can be fleshed out in the books and have time to grow and get to where they need to be. The dialogue was so forced and plot so rushed by the show runners, it neutered the ability for the endgame to have the proper pay off for the audience.

I started reading in the late 90s and I have long ago ceased caring about this series.

I would have hated to have started the books back then and would probably feel the same way.

I read a lot of fantasy novels, and outside of Tolkien, the only other writer I would possibly put above Martin is Joe Abercrombie. Not sure how many "plenty" is for you though.

but the last couple haven't exactly been great or even very good books.

Yea just have to disagree there. The 1st 3 were almost perfect. Book 4 dipped but A Dance with Dragons was fantastic as well.

He's been collaborating on a video game. For those not in the know the makers of the very acclaimed Dark Souls series of games is working on a new game called Elden Ring and he's working with them on like lore and world building and stuff apparently. Not sure if his involvement is minimal or in depth but they are advertising his involvement.

Jon is also a limp dick resurrection Jesus hero/non hero that ended up serving zero part in the end game of the story. It felt like every character was a red herring and no one served a purpose as a main character.

There’s waaaay too much foreshadowing to say he doesn’t know where he is going. He knows exactly where he wants to take the books. And if you do a reread you will pick up on several things that he tells you are going to happen way before they do.

He’s just a lazy frick man. There’s nothing else here. The old fat frick is just a lazy old bastard

He put out the first three books within a 6 year span and it was one of the most unique and mesmerizing series I had ever read. The way he could take the most evil character and write it well enough where you could almost feel sympathy for them was something I had never read before.

Then the delays started and the next two books came out. It almost seemed like he had a really good plan to get to the middle of this story and then just lost his path. I'm invested so I will read the book when it comes out but after that last two books I'm not hopeful. Maybe he we return to the form of the first three books I'm at least going to find out.
