NK had the right strategy. Protect his generals and throw 100ks of dead bodies he doesn’t care about at the enemy.
He didn’t give a damn about losing a single member of the dead. Lose a WW and he loses a portion of his army. He stayed back and protected the WW against the dragons till the human force was so depleted he could waltz right in there.
Then instead of facing John he knew he could just reanimate the newly dead to give him time to get to Bran and be ambushed.
Which was the goal for the living from the beginning. We just thought (hoped) it would be John delivering the killing blow. The living’s plan actually worked, they just lost more forces than expected to get to that point.

Can you give me one instance in the show where it is established or explained that wights would "die" when their lead White Walker was killed in battle?

Because DandD are terrible story tellers. It is that simple. They rely on cliches and tropes to tell a story, and it has been clear since they have surpassed the books. It's all a beautiful mess now.
13 downvotes to this. 13 low iq plebs. Can we get some more please? I am disappointed at the lack of LCDs in this thread

They didnt have to. Why would you show your one weakness when you have the undead fighting for you?
Especially when their death means a loss of not just them, but a large portion of their forces.
Staying alive was the best thing they could possibly do.

Seems like a major missing piece. Kind of like Ghost taking a sabbatical.
I know its probably wrong but I was thinking it was odd they they built up the WW, had them as a group of 13 standing around white he converts a baby, etc. I know the plan was to kill the NK and all the Wights die, but what bout the WW? They were shown as different, more powerful, and fundamentally are killed different from the Wights. They raised dead of their own. They were created not raised from the dead. Are they still out there? Maybe one of them at the most? Or are we just to assume the NK was the source of energy for them as well? Even though it was never even hinted at?
I have a feeling the final scene of GOT after the Iron Throne is 100% resolved, right before credits, is a flash forward to the baby the NK turned, aka his "Son" opening his blue eye, end series.

Not to mention they put the trebuchets on the front lines and used them once. For as many hardened military veterans they had, they had a pretty dumb strategy.
Also were the Dorthraki just going to charge into battle in the dark? Because they had no idea Melisandre was going to show up.

We literally see the NK create a WW from Craster's baby. He is the source of the WW and he is the source of the wights.
