Streaming revenue will get it to 700.
All ancillary revenue streams will probably make it pretty successful at the end of the year. Digital sales are probably pretty good, WB is following Universal's lead in how and when to maximize profits on digital sales. It will be a big hit on HBOMax when it debuts there, similar to the success of Sinners and Minecraft. It will also sell pretty well on whatever limited edition 4k steelbook they sell for $50.
The true impact of the success or failure will be known down the road. Batman Begins was a underperformer at the box office that ultimately gained steam and helped set the table for a billion dollar Dark Knight.
Superman has been well liked among the majority of fans, it beat everything Marvel did this year, it has had a pretty successful domestic haul. WB is probably pretty happy all things considered, even after a disappointing international box office.

People like SEK love adding marketing costs to the budget, but not adding all the ancillary revenues to the box office total. It kills their narrative, so they conveniently leave it out. Movies like Superman make a killing when it comes to licensing fees, product placement, PVOD, etc.
I won't argue that 600 mil is a bit underwhelming, but saying things like massive flop is simply ridiculous.

Look man it’s pretty simple. The movie wasn’t a flop no matter how much you want it to be. I agree it didn’t make what it should’ve made. By me saying it wasn’t a flop, It doesn’t mean I’m saying it was a massive hit. As much as you want this to be the biggest flip in history, it just wasn’t. It did not lose money. No matter how much you wanna swing it. You’re making yourself look bad.

That's a great point, product placement and marketing partners (like those Progressive ads) combined with the fact that the movie was also filmed in Ohio and Georgia which netted it some pretty hefty tax rebates, make budget figures impossible to nail down.

I have no skin in this game.
In a more sane timeline, I'd be all over this AND Fantastic Four. (which is doing even worse, btw).
I re-saw Shin Godzilla. I understand it's not for everyone, but I enjoyed it. It's not as good as Minus One, but both have their place, and I'm fine with that.

But you do have skin in this game. You’ve made it very clear that you do not want gunn in charge of the universe. Thats skin in the game man.

Exactly. Man of Steel made a killing with this, so people that thought it was a flop looked like fools. In due time, we'll hear about how much this Superman film has made.

Exactly what I was thinking while watching Superman. Gunn must have watched Invincible, Superman is so much like the lead character in that show.

Only in your mind.
Objectively, I can say he's not the right guy for the whole damn reboot, as well as Superman, because he's not. That's where I leave it. I don't watch the movies, or the trainwreck of a universe he's going for. It's incoherent, lacks Batman, wastes Colin Ferrell's Penguin, and a whole mess of other issues.
Pity. But again, it's not my problem.

quote:are you serious? You have been on here preaching for months. About this movie specifically. In directive. You can say whatever you want, but if you’re saying you don’t have skin in this game, that’s obviously false. Your actions speak different than your words right now. I understand why you would say that. Because the fact that you have skin in the game alters your opinions relevance. the fact is that the movie didn’t lose money. Can you give me a source of someone credible that says this movie is going to lose money or lost money? I’ve seen nothing.
Only in your mind.

I started one Superman thread back in April, and posted 1 James Gunn thread based on his GQ interview.
How you see that as 'preaching' is hilarious. It's a message board. If someone replies to a post, asking me a question or some such, I'll reply. That's how message boards work. I don't remotely see this as 'preaching' anything.

What does WB do if The Batman 2 makes over $800 mil and Supergirl makes under $250? You’d have the Reeves side doubling up Gunn’s movies after their first 2. How do they justify not pivoting away from Gunn then?

He likes to conflate objectivity and subjectivity. He does this a lot.

OK, so let’s take out the words you don’t like. Have you been constantly talking in Supermanthreads? Talking about how you don’t want this universe and don’t like this movie or the director? Would you like to break down your definition of constantly? Do We have to go through the threads and count how many times you have posted against ithe movie? Are you saying that you really don’t care about all that stuff you’ve been saying about James Gunn? Because whether you call it preaching or not, it’s still skin in the game.
I wish you’d make up your mind because it sounded like you didn’t like James Gunn very much. Am I wrong in that?

He said he doesn’t have skin in the game. He’s in every single one of these threads. Speaking an opinion about what he wants and doesn’t want regarding the subject. That means he has skin in the game. He said it not me.

That's very possible, but my prediction for Supergirl is around fantastic four numbers. I think a lot will depend on the success of Peacemaker and Lanterns. If those have strong streaming numbers, then the universe is fine.

Love the Alcock casting and I think Mamoa as Lobo could be good as well but just not sure Supergirl is a big enough draw especially in the context of how he’s introduced that character. How many parents are going to take their kids to see a drunk version of Supergirl ya know?

It was good. Really good to me.
A great start to the DCU

But you haven’t established his motivation to say that. He’s argued that all he’s done is make a prediction based on observation. Thats not agenda.
