They translate so we can understand. Most religions have a good afterlife and a bad afterlife.

If anything we should be critizing Yoda.

Fricking Hobo, going through all Luke's stuff and tossing most of it into the swamp with no regard to its value to Luke.

Too old for training you are.

Understand the lessons you do not.

Dude went 20+ years without a Snickers or a deathstick (the drug the guy in the bar in Ep 2 tried to sell Kenobi). Yoda was hangry and jonesing

random Star Wars observation, since I am binging the movies...

looks like Han has a bowl of Cheerios, after they make the jump to lightspeed escaping Tatooine. Luke's fricking around with a lightsaber (in a cramped spaceship in hyperspace, I'm sure Han appreciates that), Chewie and the droids are playing chess, and Han comes and sits down at a counter. He has a bowl of what looks like Cheerios (maybe GUMBO!), and a cup of something, but never drinks or eats. Probably stale...

Also noticed- big bags of white stuff near the ceiling in that part of the ship. Spice, coke, something like that? Afterall, dude's a smuggler. Probably keeps a stash handy, in case he has to barter.

Why does Han say I'll see you in hell? Earth religion doesn't exist in the Star Wars trilogy.

While I understand the translation, I do remember noticing that as a kid, and wondering the same thing.

Lots of sci-fi used to address that issue, putting "frell" or "frack" in place of standard exclamations. Star Wars used "may the Force be with you", etc.
I think it's just lazy writing to include a contemporary religious-based expression in a movie like that, it conveys the emotion but it is out of the film's context.

of course, you could always also argue that casting humans in the roles might also be a translation; the odds of identical evolution "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" is pretty low. The characters might have been intelligent octopods, for all we know.

Jewish version of hell, which just means "the grave"...

Or was it the Druish version

Yoda does it via absorbing it and sending it flying back. Done to count dooku
Abd also done to palpatine in revenge of the sith. Yet yoda selfishly doesn’t teach anyother Jedi that trick. Maybe yoda dabbled in the dark arts during a gothic teenage adolescence.

More menacing that way, since we can't see his face.

I do have a slight issue with Luke not being prepared for the force lightning in Return of the Jedi. Yoda did warn Luke not to underestimate the power of the Emperor but damn how does he not warn him of the Force Lightning and at least slightly prepare him for it!? I see that as a ROTJ problem though and not TESB.

Unless he knew all along how it had to play out...

Luke was a talented novice, he's got the raw materials but fighting back against force lightning was Yoda/Mace Tier skill.

As for the original picking. Vader was a Lord of the Sith and well versed Jedi Knight.

Being able to pick out someone's presence in the force, the tie that binds all living things, was easy.

Then you just choke him.

In RotJ, Luke fumbles cloaking himself during their duel on the Death Star, which leads to Vader realizing Leia is available to corrupt. So finding and cloaking yourself using the force/ from the force were established powers.

Would Luke have discarded his light-saber if he knew the Emperor employed force lightning? Look how easily Obi Wan can absorb it with a light-saber.

I mean, yeah sure Obi Wan is powerful but Luke should be strong enough too. If only ghost Obi Wan or Yoda would have given him some type of warning or info.

Edit: Now that I think about it, Obi Wan and Yoda apparently didn't inform Anakin about it either.

Man I forgot Obi-wan did that too.

I'm just going by what the OT was presenting.

Look also wasn't up there to kill his dad. Which was why Yoda and Obi-wan were pulling on their collars.

His whole plan was to go into the lion's den and break his dad by talking.

He didn't even make an aggressive move until he tried a last ditch assassination attempt on palpatine when the alliance got smashed in the pooper.

and to add, Yoda, after knowing how the Sith employ force lighting by deflecting Count Dooku's force lighting, walks right into the Emperors office and get nailed by it. Maybe Yoda and Obi Wan are senile by ROTJ.

Yoda is Snoke. Dude didn't die on Dagobah. He is so powerful he was able to cloud Luke's mind making him think he died.
