Why is Bond in the Caribbean so often?

Is it because the English are an island people?
Or it is just exotic enough for Americans?
Re-watching the movies he is there a ton.

I always just assumed it was the British "owned" Caribbean islands. Turks, Virgin Islands, Bermuda, etc.
Plus, sexy beach scenes are probably bleak on an England setting.

Because Ian Fleming lived at his estate in Jamaica while writing the books. His estate was called Goldeneye, fun fact

Dr No was chosen as the 1st film for essentially 2 reasons:
1. It got out of dark, dreary England quickly
2. The 1st half was basically a Philip Marlowesque private eye story. So it was both cheaper to shoot and eased the audience into the superspy, gadget filled world of the 2nd half, which was then new.

Brits love going to the Carribbean and Miami. Even going back 50+ yrs.
All that old British colonial and piracy lineage, plus all the territories still part of the commonwealth like Jamaica and Virgin Islands.
There's just a big British connection to that region. And it's also incredible visually on a movie screen.

The Beatles filmed "Help!" in the Bahamas and some of the shots were on a property that is now owned by Sandals.

My college roommate worked the summer of 1963 as a waiter/busboy in Jamaica and met Ian Fleming. That was just after Dr. No had been released in the US, and my roommate had not seen the movie or read any of the books. I was reading Goldfinger at the time, and showed him the book. He missed several classes binge-reading 007.

Because that's where Ian Fleming lived. Lots of former British officers ended up in Jamaica back then. It was like Costa Rica is now. Weather's nicer, cost of living cheaper and they can easily live well of a government pension.

Bond was filmed at Hilton resorts. All of the old movies were essentially funded as advertising for Hilton Hotel properties around the globe.

Side note, I don’t like the Caribbean as a movie setting. Same goes for South America.

For one example, there needs to be a reason for Ursula Andress to be in as little clothing as possible.
