Why? American soap operas have been part of American culture since the 1920s.

Why don't the actors from the Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital make more money than the primetime actors when soap operas are the conversation start to taboo topics like sex, abortion, underage relationships, race, class structures, etc?

Soap operas are still popular.

If I am at home on weekdays, I tune in to see what's going on.

Susan Lucci was amazing on All My Children (1970-2011)

Day time shows get poor ratings vs prime time because of a limited audience.

Advertising rates are determined by ratings.

Actors paychecks are determine by advertising rates.

True.

I love Victor Newman.

He is one of the greatest soap characters in history.

The actor, Eric Bredean is popular on Twitter.

Probably a lot. Day time tv is big money. There aren't very many options, so all the views get funneled to a few shows. Judge Judy makes bank.

They are not as good of actors, just look how few have actually moved on to prime time or movies.

It probably has something to do with ratings and exposure.

The ones that do always get the frick out within a year, two at the very max, i.e. Demi Moore, Julianne Moore, Sarah Michelle Gellar, etc..
