I never noticed they had.

Isn't this Disney?

Rebels is through OT. The Resistance was the active militant 'arm' of the new republic.

It still makes no sense as new republic fleets should exist.

We should start calling the US military the Resistance. It would make just as much sense, which is to say, none.

I always figured it was the difference between rebelling against an established empire and resisting a growing First Order.

I've never actually sat down and watched TFA but I think it was some sorta divide between fighting or treating with The Empire.

The should have just used the EU basis where the Empire was beaten back to the galactic core and the republic was just stretched then re-establishing itself.

And combating the occasional got his shite together warlord.

Well the Rebellion became the New Republic after the remnants of the Empire surrendered.

Then the First Order emerged and the New Republic didn't take them seriously. First Order supporters/sympathizers in the New Republic basically sidelined Leia as wanting to get more glory in a new war and leaked that her father was Darth Vader.

So Leia formed a private military force called the Resistance to basically stop/slowdown the First Order (and hopefully get the New Republic to see that they were a threat).

This is correct. It's also dumb af. It pretty much renders the victory in OT as useless when you see how powerful the First Order is compared to the "resistance"

It’s so weak that they had to create a retconned, online explanation/omission of thirty years of Star Wars history to justify their own lazy reboot.

Because they wanted to bank on nostalgia without it appearing they were just doing a ripoff of the OT. So you get empire light, rebel light, emperor and Vader light, etc

Interesting to see on that chart where The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi flowed into each other, some short time passes between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

What a clusterfrick. This is why they aren't qualified to run Star Wars. They are only capable of mapped-out, formulaic thinking.

Lest we forget, this is all being planned out by Kennedy's think tank of politically-driven, PC idiot females. I have little doubt that "the resistance" is meant to allude to the current left wing movement of the exact same name.

Or, more concisely.....

I wouldn't say it's all planned. They didn't even have a plan for the whole trilogy, they just let ryan and jj do. Collin Treveraux left IX because he and ryan had conflicting views on the way certain thing should go in 8 for it's lead in to 9. That is how incompetent Lucas film is now

Is the poor retread of the OT where Luke is a nihilistic old man Kennedy's fault? Undoubtedly as she approved it. Is her "story team" to blame for the destruction of all lines created by Abrams? Yes. But it's just as much Ryan and more specifically Abrams fault. He chose to do a bad remake of iv with 7. And he did not have much of an outline for all 3 films and im sure what he had was as much of a cooy as 7 was. Abrams somehow seems to skate over criticism while ryan gets all the flack which I think is unfair. He setup the story, the characters, etc. Ryan just used what he was given (in a really bad way)

At this point I hope IX flops which is sad cause I like the series. But, it's a burning turd rolling down a mountain now
