Why couldn’t Thor just drop Mjolnir on Thanos’ chest in Endgame?

Caught the first five minutes of Ragnorak on tv when he drops the hammer on that rat dragon and it keeps him down.
Why didn’t he do the same in Endgame battle against Thanos other than muh story reasons? Is Thanos strong enough to pick it up otherwise?
Could’ve pinned him down then chopped his head off with Stormbreaker

Pretty sure Thanos can wield Mjolnir once he has one or more infinity stones

but Thanos didn't have the infinity stones during the first fight. They lost to him sans stones.

The first fight of end game? When Thor killed him? There were only two battles with Thanos in that movie right?

I think he meant infinity war

Either one, at the end of Endgame past-Thanos didn’t have any stones.

Thor didn't have Mjolnir in Infinity War. Hela destroyed it in Ragnarok.

Because the movie had to happen.
No.

No.

well to pin him down - they would have had to knock him down - and up until Cap taking the hammer in Endgame and knocking him down, no one had really done anything to Thanos - aside from maybe when Mantis put him under, and even then they were trying to get the gauntlet. in fact the only real damage was by Stark when he kicked Thanos with his foot blade and barely scratched him.
the idea is sound - but up until endgame - Thanos was waxing everyone.

The ability to lift mjolnir has nothing to do with strength

Infinity stones don’t make him worthy

God I just remembered when they ruined Hulk in the first five minutes of Infinity War. Good writing would have had him go into hiding for a while, then regain confidence through Bruce and come back from that moment in Endgame and beat the dog shite out of Thanos like the true Hulk. Instead we got the girl power team up.
Think about Bruce Banner on the field in the Hulkbuster in a 1 v 1 vs Thanos and slowly losing, then Hulk picks that moment to reemerge stronger than ever. Then joined by Captain Marvel, then joined by Thor, while the rest of the Avengers clean up the army. Could still have ended with Iron Man's snap.

Of course they could. Soul and reality stones would do it.

They turned hulk into a puss.

nope - the spell was who who proves himself worthy - Thanos proved that he was not worthy - his plan to eliminate 1/2 the universe was selfish on his part due to his misguided worship of death.
in a real way - it was no different an when Thor lost the ability to wield the hammer in the 1st mo0vie until he proved worthy of sacrificing himself to save his friends and the innocents in NM.
Thanos had no chance to do that, so no - the stones would not have helped - changing reality does not alter the spells requirements.

The reality stone can manipulate all matter around the hammer to create the exact same reality as him wielding the hammer so yes it could.

to the perception of people yes - but you are talking about a magic spell by Odin - 2 completely different situations

Wouldn’t that have been a total mind frick if Thanos was worthy?

I don’t disagree with you I’m just saying as a matter of practicality in a fight it’s possible he could use it with the stones.

I suppose if that had happened, the heroes would’ve had to recognize that hey maybe Thanos has a point
