I thought this was going to be a chick flick since my wife and her friends and all the women in my family had passed the book back and forth. My wife wanted to see it so I went with her to see it last night. I had zero expectations as I knew nothing about the book or the story.

At the end I had to give her props on the way home for picking out a good movie

Chick flick could be very loosely used but really it’s a murder mystery thriller. It’s set in the South Carolina marsh but I believe the whole movie was filmed in Louisiana. I had a gripe about the ending but my wife said it was explained better in the book. Overall I enjoyed it very much though. Looking on RT I see they give it a 34% but the audience score is 96%. Typically I find it’s a pretty good movie when RT lowballs it but movie goers enjoy it.

New Orleans and Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville. The cast and crew stayed in Covington

Me too but was presently surprised it wasn't. The big twist at the end was pretty solid IMO. After hearing all the bad reviews I thought it would be unwatchable, but honestly it was pretty enjoyable. The dead dude was a pretty bad actor, but the rest of the acting wasn't as bad as people were making it out to be. David Strathairn was very good in his role. It isn't ground backing, but a solid 6.5/10 enjoyable way to spend a few hours.

Wy wife read it and saw it with some friends, she enjoyed it, but I didn't know until she was going to see it that it's not set in Louisiana.

I just assumed it was, because it was filmed there. I think the book is actually North Carolina?

Yes, North Carolina not South Carolina my bad. Damn I grew up next to Fontainebleau State Park my whole life and couldn’t tell it was filmed there. My wife even asked me during the movie if that was Fontainebleau State Park and told her couldn’t be

Guess they were out around Cane Bayou for a lot of the filming then. It definitely wasn’t the beach by the pier.

3 years ago when my book came out this was #1 on The Best Sellers List and I joked that I was going to title my book "Where the Crawdad's Get Eaten."

Thanks for the heads up...I'll definitely check it out.

So were the beach scenes shot at the lakefront? I knew it was shot in LA but didn't recognize the beach. It really looked like it could have been in NC.

She didn’t have running water at her house outside of the water pump so I don’t know how she managed to stay so cleanly all the time but yeah, she could get it
