When's the last time there was truly a great comedy movie? The answer to that will help explain why Ferrell hasn't been in anything good in a while. It also seems that Ferrell may have also been captured by the woke nonsense, which is a comedy killer.

I wish I liked him, but no

I’m pretty sure he thinks it means anytime anyone famous, regardless of longevity, becomes less famous means they had their 15 minutes.

His new movie with Reese Witherspoon 'You're Cordially Invited' came out today on Prime. I was wanting to watch it. Has anyone seen it yet? I thought it looked funny at least
Really? I think it looks awful, even my wife thought it looked bad and she had horrible tastes in movies.
Then again, taking movies with stupid concepts and making them funny is (was?) kind of his thing, so maybe it’ll work

I guess I am easily suckered in by movie trailers, haha. It also may be that I still remember his movies from the good ole days and think he still has some left in the tank. I call that the Adam Sandler syndrome

If she's anything like mine, she will see Reese and want to watch it, see Will is in it and think I want to watch it. Then suggest it for movie night and fall asleep 20 minutes into it

it fricks me up that he was only like 35 in Old School

Comedians/comic actors generally have a shelf life. Being funny isn't like being a good actor. Will Ferrell and Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler and so on aren't going out and reinventing themselves in each new comedic role. The characters they play change, but the way they deliver jokes remains pretty much the same. Eventually their schtick loses appeal because everyone has seen it multiple times.
Comic actors who can change their delivery method and stay funny are very few and far between. Bill Hader can do this, I think. I'm having trouble coming up with another example off the top of my head.

Old School, Zoolander, and Austin Powers are what come to mind. He's funny when he has small roles. Talladega Nights gets honorable mention for a 1 watch laugh, but it's too much Will to watch over and over.

Step Brothers but the The Other Guys is pretty good.

The 50s and 60s can be awkward for physical, goofballish comedians like Ferrell.
If remains to be seen whether he can transition to the witty/clever elder roles like Eugene Levy, Martin Short, and Steve Martin. Steve Martin is a good example of a goofballish physical comedian who successfully made the shift.

Not a movie, but maybe Eastbound and Down. So like 12 years ago.
I actually did not like this role at all

Bill Hader isn't a box office star, though, like Ferrell was. As others have mentioned in thread, Ferrell's dropoff is likely attributed to his type of movies not being made as often, anymore.
Looking at this list of comedic box office draws, not many of these actors/actresses have had any big movies, lately.
