Remake of All Quiet on the Western Front.
Rewatched Apocalypse Now just this week. Just so much more than a war movie it’s almost not a war movie.. Especially the extended version with the French plantation scene etc.

Greyhound wasn't that bad.
And its different to see a sub movie from the convoy's point of view.

I just saw the 2022 edition of All Quiet...
After liking All Quiet so much, I finally made a point of going back to finally watch 1917 last night. It was very well made, the cinematography was top notch but (to me) it paled in comparison to All Quiet. Good film, just not at the same level IMO. If I'd seen them in opposite order I might feel differently.

I liked 1917 and still do. But it had a Disney-fied feel to it I can't quite explain.
I know exactly what you mean and had the same feeling. It felt a little more "packaged" but can't point to exactly why - it wasn't the production quality and certainly not the filming, the writing was good. I wonder, for me, if it was the casting and particularly the inclusion of several well known actors all in cameo-like roles felt somewhat gratuitous.
