the, "big guy, for you" scene is iconically hilarious and fun to watch imho. 4chan went wild with that shite, I've seen all of nolan's movies and he still has not mailed in a scene quite like he did on that one. the dialogue is absolutely absurd, it's a national treasure

Well, movie studios basically don’t put out any other blockbusters except for maybe the occasional CGI explosion movie starring The Rock or low budget jump scare flick.

Comedies, historical epics, and non-oscar bait movies have been few and far between for the last 5 years, so what else are we supposed to discuss on the movie board?

You know, Gone With The Wind sure was long, but I really enjoyed it. Every scene moved the plot forward. I still can’t believe The Last Action Hero was panned as a flop when it was released. It was so far ahead of its time. You know, that Lawrence of Arabia movie sure was exciting! Was Indiana Jones a pedo? Did he rape an underage Maralyn? How dod Shia Lebuff convince those monkeys to swing with him on the vines while chasing the Commies?

I agree the industry is pretty dogshit

they basically won't make an action movie anymore unless they know that

a: it will sell in Gina

b: it can be parlayed into a larger string of movies for a, "cinematic universe"

Apples and Oranges.

After First Avenger, Cap's movies became Avengers films.

I don't see this. Both horror and sci-fi have been at the top of their game. I do think comedies are on a down turn, but that is thanks to cultural and nothing funny being allowed (although we have gotten Tag, Game Night, etc. which were both solid).

We aren't seeing huge historical epics, but Kill the Messenger, American Made, Sicario, 13 Minutes, 1917, Free State of Jones, Loving, First Man, etc. All good to great.

I think you see a stratification - superhero films are the "Event" movies getting the headlines and "culturally conscious" or "culturally forward" are the only films that get real "critic praise." The good to great films that have to deal with real matters and don't necessarily take strong opinions, they are just "good" movies, are generally lost in the "look at me!" shuffle. But those films are being made.

Apples vs Oranges
Batman don’t have ray-guns and magic stones.
Cap doesn’t have Sir Micheal Caine.

Jesus Christ, they thought we were supposed to buy that Maggie Gyllenhaal was Katie Holmes' character from Batman Begins?

I never realized that. I just thought Bruce was getting lazy.

It’s Batman. But I probably enjoy Cap more. The Winter Soldier is arguably the best marvel movie and a much better movie than people give credit for outside of comic book circles.

It’s a very grown up take where Cap is dealing with his man out of time problems, the fact that he really can’t relate to anyone (which is why his character development with Sam is interesting), and he’s struggling to understand his place in the world. Steve Rogers becomes Cap to protect his friends and fight a clear enemy. Those friends and that enemy doesn’t exist anymore (as far as Steve knows) and it makes him have doubt.

Cap is the soldier to the end, loyal to the people he’s holding the line with almost to a fault. Evans plays a great character.

This isn’t even a question it’s a joke. Nolan’s trilogy is by far the better one in every possible way. Winter soldier is outstanding but the first Cap movie was barely watchable and Civil War is an avengers movie. People wanna talk about TDKR as sloppy while ignoring the total mess Civil War ended up being. It’s the typical Disney bot fan club blindly creaming over the MCU. You guys are becoming a punchline.

I think these are pretty much even. Each being great in their own way. However, Cap would be confusing if you have not seen the other Marvel movies around that time. Otherwise you would be lost lol.

on TD, the Anti MCU crowd that’s practically gives automated responses.

Nolan’s trilogy is vastly overrated.

Bale’s Batman performance is lazy after the first movie.

Some of these takes are atrocious. They're both enjoyable, but Civil War is more an Avengers movie than a Cap movie. Winter Soldier might be the best overall MCU movie.

Nolan's Batman trilogy, to me, is peak superhero film making. Batman Begins is in my top 5 all time movies. The worst part of the trilogy is Bruce turning over the keys to an untrained cop after all we saw him go through to be able to become Batman. It made no sense, but at the same time, Nolan had to improvise TDKR after Ledger died.

TDK
Batman Begins
TWS

Civil War (let’s be honest, this was Avengers 2 1/2)
TDKR.

I don't know, dude. I think civil war might be better in almost every way. It's not great, but little about tdkr is enjoyable. Civil War has a compelling villain-as-catalyst component that leads to compelling drama. It has better directed and edited action sequences than most mcu movies, and much better than the visual soup of Nolan's action. It's also overlong and hinges on a group conflict that the movie half-hearted sells.

Tdkr's best-aged element and performance is probably Hathaway's catwoman. I don't agree with the people who hate Wayne hanging up the batman cape at the end, but I do think that's an entire plot and character arc that's useless and uninteresting.

Oh, sorry, I was responding as though you had some self-awareness, but you sound like you operate only within hyper-emotional binaries. I'm sorry that my opinion doesn't quite fit with yours or the ones you're yelling about. I'm sure you'll just yell at us some more about Nolan being the Best Ever.

I think she starts off great but then doesn't really add much. I'm a big fan of Hardy's Bane. He's a very underrated villain.

I didn't care much for TDKR when I first saw it, but it really grew on me over the years. It's a flawed comic book film, just as all comic films are.

Lol well nobody accused you of anything personally so thanks for outing yourself. Don’t get me wrong I love the MCU I think they’re very entertaining movies and a couple are actually really good based on objective movie grading. But in that vein Nolan’s Batman series is far superior in every way. Comparing the worst of the 3 Batman movies to every MCU movie or all 3 Cap movies just shows the mental gymnastics you need to even level the playing field. Civil War is entertaining but it’s a mess, the story, the characters response to the story, the imprisonment the ridiculous Cap vs Tony scenario, Black Panthers arch in the movie. You’re using double standards to judge the movies and your response to my post shows why.

I kind of agree with you but n Bale, his Batman is overrated and the trilogy itself probly is too if you go by IMDB but it’s still in another league compared to the 3 Cap stand alone films. Winter soldier is a milestone for the MCU stand alone movie, they should’ve followed that blueprint.
