Hmmm... it seems I like most of the most hated films on this board. Weird. It's mainly because I find most of the culture war stuff to be boring as hell so I just ignore it. I've got no dog in the fight, so I don't get bent out of shape by a movie's existence. And I really can't relate to how the anti-SJW crowd is just angry all the time. It seems they are outraged just to be outraged, and they keep that fire burning 24/7, 365. I don't have that sort of energy.

And i mean this whatever side of the culture war you're in. This board leans consevrative, but there are liberal boards mad about the pro-cop message in BlacKkKlansman, the Sam Rockwell character in 3 Billboards (which is a criticism which sort of misses the entire point of the film, but whatever), the toxicity of the main character in Ready Player One... I mean, people are ready to be mad about every damn movie if it doesn't perfectly line up with their beliefs.

Your politics are boring. That goes for everyone.

That character was about as exciting to watch as watching wallpaper dry. He was a blank slate. I don’t see how you can be outraged.

Look, I don't see how people were outraged by an all-female Ghostbusters a year in advance of its release, but that happened, too.

People like overreacting and then going to the mattresses.

Two lines?

One of which is integral to the story.

Since I’ve been reading this board (10+ years) the biggest love/hate slugfest I’ve seen over a movie is Prometheus. Lots of strong opinions on that one. TLJ is overwhelmingly hated on this board. Black Panther I feel is considered an average Marvel movie by most and the only controversy is arguing over the political message.

The outrage was spot on though, movie was god awful and a bad idea to begin with.

Everyone always forgets the "discussion" Prometheus stirred when this topic comes up.

It wasn’t that they were women. The Angry Video Game Nerd, RedLetterMedia, and Richard Roeper shite all over it because it was a terrible and insulting adaptation.

Yep. Look at my post above. Biggest discrepancy in opinions I’ve seen on here.

Did you actually watch the movie? That was never considered a positive. The main villain's primary motivation was intricately tied to Wakanda's self imposed isolation. And the movie ended with them opening up a cultural exchange center in America expressly for the purpose of changing that.

Exactly, not sure how it could be viewed any other way

Fantastic movie by itself. I wish we could get some more background on the architects.

Black Panther is a fine movie by itself, but definitely not academy material.

The Witch is also fantastic. The only legitimate gripe someone can have with that film is the mumbling. Some people may need subtitles. But the common gripe is that nothing happened and it wasn’t scary enough. Those people definitely pre-order Transformers tickets.

Are you talking about the museum Heist scene?

The scene in which we're introduced to the villain speaking a line of dialogue that is well within context of the scene? You know he isn't saying that for nothing right?

I don't think you're very good at this.

Seriously, Parmen thought the movie would have to do with storming the border, when any idiot that watched the trailer should have seen it was a conservative film about family values.

I'm not talking about how it was portrayed in the movie. I'm talking about how it was viewed by the public/fans/media.

A bunch of racists that are terrified of a Mexican being portrayed in a positive light. Seriously, Parmen thought the movie would have to do with storming the border, when any idiot that watched the trailer should have seen it was a conservative film about family values.

I love Mexicans, but I didn't care for Coco..

Maybe I should watch it again sometime, but I couldn't get into it. Has nothing to do with race.

Nobody is upset that people enjoy BP. That’s not the controversy at all, and you know it. And no one gives a shite that it’s a movie with black people. What irks people is the slobbering praise heaped upon it solely bc it’s a movie with black movie, and this silly idea that the movie has or should have some deep meaning to black people. It’s a comic book movie and to make it anything more than that is seems insulting. It certainly didn’t warrant field trips from school or an academy nom.
