I'm sure mine wasn't the first movie I saw, but it's the first movie memory I have. My second is going to see Psycho with my whole family when I was about to start first grade! My mother kept covering my eyes, and I kept moving her hand away. Bad parenting. Good times.
Pollyanna, Parent Trap (the original), Swiss Family Robinson ... those are my favorite kids movies from my childhood.

We didn't have a lot of kids movies in the theaters when I was a kid. Vague memory of seeing Mary Poppins in the theater when I was three. Definitely remember seeing Sound of Music twice when I was four. Seeing Adam West's Batman in the theater at five was huge.

This will date me:
When I was 4 or 5 I can remember falling asleep in the back seat of my parents' Rambler at the drive in while they watched "Funny Girl".

My first memory of seeing a movie in a theater was going with my dad to see The Shootist. That year I remember going to see it and Midway...but I think the Shootist was first. I loved John Wayne, and it made a big impression on me.
I remember sitting in the back of the station wagon at a drive-in when my parents were watching Beware of The Blob...but mostly I just remember being excited to be out that late, then immediately falling asleep while my older brothers watched whatever was playing on the screen behind our car.

I remember seeing Superman in the theater, I think it was 1979. I also remember seeing a Burt Reynolds movie in the theater around that time, but I can't remember which movie it was. For those who don't know, he was basically the Samuel L. Jackson of the acting world back then.

Two early memories:
Being excited to see the Empire Strikes Back. I was Star Wars obsessed, even though I had never seen the first one. I don't think I ever did until it finally came on network TV, which may have even been after ROTJ.
Seeing Superman III and freaking out over the Robot Lady. I bawled my eyes out in the theater.

1. Old Yeller. I was 4. Cried and cried and cried.....and then, according to my mother, I sang the theme song around the house for about a month.
2. Snow White in a re-release. Loved it.
3. Walking in on my parents watching The Silent Partner. My mom hustled me out of the living room really quickly.
4. The first movie I got to choose myself was Flash Gordon. We went to the zoo in Monroe, out to eat, and then my mom let me choose the movie. It started something because I cannot NOT watch that movie when it's on. I love it. Anytime my students mention that it's one of their favorites...which isn't often...I give bonus points.

King Kong's (33) teeth scaring the crap out of me at a movie theater on a Air Force base my dad was stationed at.
I also remember being bored out of my mind when they took me to see The Sting. I was like 4 or 5.

My first movie in the theater was The Jungle Book. It's all been downhill from there.

Watching Empire Strikes Back on laser disk at my dad's cousin's house. He was also the only person we knew with a satellite dish. It was bigger than his house. He had all these descramblers and tv equipment we didn't know existed. It was badass for the early 80's.
