nobody has mentioned Passion of the Christ? That movie is almost a damn snuff film.

The movie is over the top and hard to take seriously, IMO. Hardly in the same league as films with a "snuff film" aesthetic.

1. The Wild Bunch

I wish I could go back and hear people talk about this movie when it came out. It was so much more violent than anything at the time. Completely changed westerns forever.

Unless I completely missed it with all the Tarentino talk, Inglorious Basterds has some pretty rough parts.

You can read what people thought about it.

NY Times 1969 review

Variety.com 1969 review

Paul Schrader Los Angeles Free Press-really cool site with reviews of several old movies, interviews & pictures
(Scroll down to 1969 & click on "The Wild Bunch")

Roger Ebert Sun-Times review from 2002

Film.com column-tells about how westerns/movies changed after it.

for me it was probably Gangs of New York or We Were Soldiers. I mean both movies had a few scenes where I cringed very hard and couldn't look at it the next time I watched it.

cannibal films (cannibal holocaust, cannibal ferox ie make them die slowly) were pretty violent. There's a japanese film called "flower of flesh and blood" part of something called "the guinea pig series." saw a couple of brief scenes in a documentary about snuff films. From the brief scenes i saw, looked like pretty brutal stuff. dont think i have the stomach or desire to actually watch the full movie.
