What is the board’s opinion on Movie Tavern (or other dinner served type theaters)

Is it hard to immerse yourself in a movie here? Should I save going here for pure popcorn flick movies? I’m considering going to one for the first time for A Star is Born.

We really enjoyed it.
Great experience because we knew to get there early.

But never went back so I guess that means something.

Never been to one. I’m very picky and easily annoyed by distractions during movies so it’s probably not the best choice for me, but I’m sure plenty of people aren’t bothered by such things

I live inDallas and there’s like 20 in the metroplex .. I think they are great. I haven’t been to anything besides a studio movie grill in a couple years. Booze, food and movies can’t be beat.

I love Movie Tavern... the service at the one at Juban has been top notch every since they reopened after the flood.

Juban is good.

Corporate Blvd. is a nightmare.

Thanks all. I think I might go because ticket prices are comparable to regular theaters, just for the nice seats and drink service. Probably go eat somewhere with better food beforehand.

I use them (Flix Brewhouse here) to go to comedies and light hearted movie, then use Cinemark comfy chairs for Star Wars/Marvel movies etc for the bigger screen and better immersion in XD

The other good thing about Flix is they have a classic lineup with solder movies that are fun for a date night out (Ghostbusters, Vacation, Sandlot, etc)

Pretty much every theater in BR has recliner seats now. I think AMC at bluebonnet is only one that doesn’t

The food is what it is, cheaper then a restaurant. Tickets are on par with normal theaters and you get more alcohol options so I like it

I've been to the one in Covington several times. I enjoy it overall.

Pros:
- Select/reserve your seats online ahead of time
- Big, spacious seating, with lots of leg room
- Drinks
- Usually pretty good service

Cons:
- Food is pretty meh, and can sometimes be downright terrible. I've had varying experiences. I think their burgers are normally decent, but I've gotten wings and chicken tenders that still seemed halfway frozen. Fries can be hit or miss...decent sometimes, other times it seems like I got a 6 hour old batch that are cold and soggy.

As far as price, you'll spend a lot more than a regular theatre, but then again if your plan was to do dinner and a movie, then you're spending less overall

- It's annoying having servers scuttle about and whisper to everyone in the theater while you're trying to watch a movie

- 200 people clanking silverware during a movie is distracting

- It's dark and you can't see your food well

- Do you really want greasy and messy hands eating chicken wings in a theater?

- You can't just walk into the theater after buying a ticket like any other place. They make everyone wait in the lobby and then corral everyone into the theater like a group of cows

Eating beforehand is much more enjoyable...

If you have to do something during a movie, get a bag of popcorn.

Only food I get anymore is cheese sticks. If you’re wanting drinks while you watch then it’s def the place.

I went twice in 2 weeks in August and both experiences were really good. Prompt service, nice waiters, and the distractions were minimal.

I did go when that location first opened and they hadn’t quite figured it out yet at the time.

Movie Tavern

I prefer Celebrity Theater (Old Oak Cinema 8),and yes I'm serious. It has been redone and they have food, recliners, and alcohol. But they don't serve during the movie, which I like.

I go to a movie theater to watch a movie, not to have a full meal.

I'll stick with popcorn and a soda.

I'll go out to dinner before the movie.

Never been to one of these or even seen one but I can't imagine it being anything less than extremely annoying.
