I guess I will break it up into two categories, horror and non-horror.

My vote for horror has to "The Shining" (movie, not TV), and for non-horror is "Shawshank Redemption" (with "The Green Mile" a very close second).

My honorable mention goes to "Misery".

The worst goes to "The Langoliers". That was the worst thing I had ever watched.

Shawahank easily

For horror, The Shining is an all time classic. My personal experience is that Cujo and Christine scared the shite out of me as a kid.

My favorite after The Shining and Shawshank is Pet Sematary. Also a big fan of The Stand and It miniseries but they are flawed.

Shawshank for sure for non-horror.

TV movie version of The Shining over the Kubrick version. I liked Stephen Weber's Torrance more than Nicholson's.

Nothing had a bigger impact than IT. Think of how many people claim to hate clowns now. That largely started with IT. It ruined clowns for a whole generation. The clown industry may never recover.

For all the talk about horrible adaptations there are some great movies in there. Shawshank is #1 on the IMDB top 250 so that's clearly the answer. Dolores Claiborne is often overlooked, as is Apt Pupil. Salems' Lot and It were ahead of their time as far as miniseries horror movies.
