Cool. Didn’t know that. Hopefully he doesn’t take liberties with the story. I’ll watch it either way.
It apparently has 7 major battle scenes I assuming they will be the Siege of Toulon, Rivoli, Battle of the Pyramids, Marengo, Austerlitz, Liepzig and Waterloo

Lol well I think the OP is referring to historical movies that attempt to reflect history and reality.
The op name-checked Braveheart. Very few of the historical epics made in hollywood accurately reflect history.

True story: When Alexander ended, a kid in the theater said, "Daddy, that was the worst movie I've ever seen." Dad replied, "That's only because you didn't see Gettysburg."
Those early 90s duds may have caused studios to be more cautious of the genre.

John Carter would fall into this category.
If it was a historical epic, instead of science fiction, it might.

If you haven’t seen it yet, highly recommend The King (it’s still on Netflix I believe) with Timothee Chalamet. It’s based on Shakespeare’s Henry IV (most characters are historical aside from Falstaff).
Not quite epic but it had a solid cast and is a nice historical period piece.
As far as the epics, you may need to look across the pond for some of those. IMO they do a much better job than we do of those kind of deals.

The cookie cutter comic book movie. Zero risk good to great ROI.
They have killed movie making.

There is a limited series (6 episodes) on Prime called Boundless that details Ferdinand Magellan’s trip around the world. I thought it was very good, but have not seen it mentioned here.

quote:As soon as I saw Robert E. Lee was being played by a man who has allegedly been arrested 66 times, with a lot of them being for his actions while participating in left wing protests. I love Sheen as an actor, from Kit in Badlands to Queenan in The Departed, with a bunch of other great roles in between, but he should never have been picked to play Robert E. Lee. He was great playing a Democratic President, but he could never pull off playing an honorable Southern gentleman like Robert E. Lee.
