Agree on The Thin Red Line, beautifully shot film with no cohesiveness whatsoever to it.

As far as 2001 goes you have to treat the visuals as dialogue and the dialogue as visuals. The story is told in the shots Kubrick uses. What dialogue there is is basically background noise and something to fill in the spaces between important shots. About the only dialogue that is important is the dialogue between Bowman and HAL.

Yeah. She goes to meet the boss she was having an affair with because she wants to get back together with him but has second thoughts and changes her mind. She and Lemmon end the movie in a relationship after she realizes he actually cared for her in a way other men hadn't and that there was a future there.

My issue is that she never fell in love with Lemmon; I would go so far as to say at the end of the movie she's still in love with her boss - she's just choosing to give that up. There is no passion, no real arc between her and Lemmon. He's crushing on her, she barely notices he exists, she tries to kill herself, then they develop a friendship. Never during any of that does she appear to be attracted to him or seriously consider him a love interest.

500 Days of Summer - did people ever figure out how cringey and sad this was or is it still considered a breath of fresh air for the genre/rom-com that it's okay for men to like?

I think you're confused. The cringy part of it was it's appeal. Hit home in a big way if you've ever been into someone in a big way but they didn't share that feeling, but kept giving you little glimmers of hope that made it impossiple to completely give up on it.

Goodfellas. great movie but some act like it's god's gift to cinema.

Scarface is sort of the same way. Just bc you live vicariously through the character doesn't make the movie tGOAT

Fargo. I don’t understand some peoples’ obsession with it.

Im curious about some of you people. I think ive seen my entire top 5 favorite movies in this thread...minus Last of the Mohicans which im sure is sure to come.

Just for context, you should state a movie you think is underrated as well.

Overrated: Ghostbusters
Underrated: Scott Pilgrim vs the World

Aside from all the buzz surrounding the movie's release, I don't ever really hear anything about Avatar anymore...

Avatar was absolutely badass in IMAX 3D but it does suck to watch at home. For what it was though it was perfect, we need more movies like that to watch in theaters.
