People didn't know M Night's schtick yet.

Costner's No Way Out was the first "oh damn" movie for me.
Or was it Hal Holbrook's character in Magnum Force....

was surprised by the ending of The Sixth Sense.
However, I figured out how Titanic would end early on.

I figured it out too in the theaters but ONLY because I was looking for this huge twist the whole time.

IMO it's the greatest twist of all time. It was right there in front of our eyes the entire time.
I wholeheartedly agree. A lot of films throw in a twist that couldn’t be picked up on by the viewer or are so convoluted it’s laughable…especially mystery movies.
TSS laid it all out there and then showed it to you again in the end…but I bet 99% of the people seeing it for the first time were surprised. Very well done.

We freakin' watched Bruce Willis get killed in the very first scene.
It was absolutely brilliant.

Yes.
And most people did a good job of not spoiling it for others which just amazed me. I was one of the last in my friend group to see it and everyone refused to tell me how it ended.

It's a rare joy to see 199 go to 200 because of my dv. Sorry OP.

It was a different time. People thought The Blair Witch Project was real footage.
