Beyond Good And Evil fricked me up in a different way, but was still a mindfrick.

Oh yes. What a weird fricking book. Creepy like nothing else. I LOVE Stephen King, but he has never achieved the level of creepiness that this book sustains for its entire 650+ pages.

anything by chuck p or bret easton ellis

pretty much anything by chuck p would do the trick. I read like 2 or 3 of his books about 10 years ago and enjoyed them. Choke was decent.
I can't remember the others though I did read fight club. One of those rare occasions where the movie was actually just as good if not better than the book though.

Helter Skelter is the craziest/scariest/weirdest/mind-frickingist book I've ever read. Mainly because it's all true.

Skeleton Crew, Stephen King for those with short attention spans.

For something old school, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym by Edgar Allan Poe. Poe's only book. Rarely read even in academic circles, but I make sure my American Literature classes read it. The sub-title tells all:
quote:
COMPRISING THE DETAILS OF A MUTINY AND ATROCIOUS BUTCHERY. ON BOARD THE AMERICAN BRIG, GRAMPUS, ON HER WAY TO THE SOUTH SEAS, IN THE MONTH OF JUNE, 1827. WITH AN ACCOUNT OF THE RECAPTURE OF THE VESSEL BY THE SURVIVERS; THEIR SHIPWRECK AND SUBSEQUENT HORRIBLE SUFFERINGS FROM FAMINE; THEIR DELIVERANCE BY MEANS OF THE BRITISH SCHOONER JANE GUY; THE BRIEF CRUISE OF THIS LATTER VESSEL IN THE ANTARCTIC OCEAN; HER CAPTURE, AND THE MASSACRE OF HER CREW AMONG A GROUP OF ISLANDS IN THE EIGHTY-FOURTH PARALLEL OF SOUTHERN LATITUDE; TOGETHER WITH THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES AND DISCOVERIES STILL FARTHER SOUTH TO WHICH THAT DISTRESSING CALAMITY GAVE RISE.
Also, check out The Manuscript Found at Saragossa

His worst book by leaps and bounds. Read Survivor or Invisible Monsters instead. Both are far better and will probably never be made into movies.
I second House of Leaves. That book is a gigantic mindscrew. The letters from his mom in the epilogue (not in all editions) are spectacularly creepy and detailed. You could spend months just reading and decoding the epilogue, much less the book.
While a film adaptation can never happen, I would love for someone to make the Navidson Record.
