Catherine Zeta Jones is great as Morticia, but really, that’s Gomez?

Luis Guzman seems like a miscast. (Im not even sure the part needs to be Hispanic/Latino. First name is Spanish, but last name is British.)

In any case, Antonio Banderas/Benecio del Toro would probably be my choice for the part.

Edit: I prefer the tall handsome version of Gomez (Raul Julia) rather than the squat John Astin/Tim Curry version.

Exactly what I was thinking. Gomez has always been portrayed as eloquent and proper.

Yeah. The guy playing Gomez would make a great Uncle Fester, but not so much Gomez.

John Astin was the perfect Gomez in B&W TV. Raul Julia was perfect in color. I'm not liking a pudgy Gomez. That's what Puglsy was for. Gomez is suppose to be a suave type of guy. Banderas or del Toro would have been great.

Looks like Guzman in the old comic

But yeah, I like Luis but don't know if he the charisma of Julia or Astin to pull the role off.

I was almost expecting her to be black given a lot of trends these days.

On the surface I am not a fan of that Gomez. Not at all. He's always been my favorite character.

I don't know if ANYONE could have followed Raul Julia. I could have seen Ricardo Montalbán making a good one, and George Hamilton as well, but sadly they've all passed away.

Would have been funny if Christina Ricci had played Morticia.

Could Rami Malek play Gomez? He's 41, but probably would be better if he was closer to 50. Then I think of someone like Lin-Manuel Miranda who is only a year older than him, but he seems much older for some reason. I've seen a lot of people suggest Johnny Depp over the years. I actually think he would do well, but unlikely to take it on.

Oscar Isaac is a guy who voices Gomez in the animated movies. I wonder if he would have been a good choice.

Based on the original

quote:

In Charles Addams's original cartoons, Gomez was the nameless patriarch of the family. He had a somewhat grotesque appearance, with a tubby body, a snub-nose, a crooked tooth and a receding chin.

He fits that perfectly

Like I said, for me, it’s not so much that Guzman is not a faithful depiction of Gomez, it’s just that I prefer Raul Julia more.
