And I think Europe is about to deliver with the TV series Rise of the Raven. Set in 15th century Hungary, this series tells the story of Janos Hunyadi - a Christian warrior who defended his homeland and Europe from Ottoman invasion when the Turks were approaching the height of their power.

The Gladiator movie(s) have some history but are largely fiction.

Nice to see a realistic looking cast.

Assuming it’s picked up by any accessible streaming service, I will give this a shot.

Babylon Berlin which is another BetaFilm project recently left Netflix for some niche, new streaming service.

I'd like to see a good mini series of the conquest of the Aztecs by Cortez.

A true to life, non-"Messaged" telling of the Lewis and Clark expedition would be great.

I’d love to see some more movies in the vein of The King, focused on some major historical events (I realize that particular movie was from Shakespeare’s telling but I liked the actual acting/filming).

There’s a lot of great stuff from pre-Tudor England that would be fun to see on screen. We need a good William the Conqueror epic. Or Empress Matilda.

The Brutalist is being described as an epic. Didn't see if it was based on anything.

The mosquitoes, the fleas, the raw intestine eating Shoshone, the expedition buying dogs from the Pacific Indians to eat, the doctor treating Indian syphilis lesions - the Russians or the Chinese could make that. Not a chance in Hell that would ever be made here .

Shogun was kind of a historical epic and is one of the best shows released in recent years

Would love to see Ken Follett’s Century Trilogy books turned into movies or a mini series.

I guess we need to determine if "historical epic" and "historical fiction" are the same. They are not IMO. Cortez mini-series would be great. Base it off the book Conquistador by Barry Levy. Truly an amazing story.

This looks promising.

Hollywood is incapable of decent historical epics, if set in Europe, bc of casting quotas.
