Watching Brewster's Millions and something that always bothered me

When Brewster is given the instructions on how he has to spend the $30 million in 30 days, his uncle tells him that he cant buy 12 Picassos and use them for firewood because he can not destroy anything that is inherently valuable. Doing that would be instant disqualification
Well later in the movie, he pays $1.25 million for a very rare stamp and mails a post card with it, thus destroying the value of the stamp.
Why didn't those two old dudes who looked like a real live version of Statler and Waldorf immediately cry foul and demand the $300 million?
BTW, on a side note, Brewster hooked the Hackensack Bulls up with probably the ugliest baseball uniforms I have ever seen. Silk shirts and silk pants?

...but not the stamp itself.

He used the stamp the way stamps were meant to be used. So thus not breaking the rules.

but the stamp was a rare collectible when it was in mint condition. But when Brewster mailing it, it was no longer in that condition, thus it lost it's value

Not if it breaks the rules, which I argue it did

yeah 30 days to spend $30 million. then he would inherit $300 million
Knowing what I know now, I would have just bought 30 rare stamps and mailed 30 postcards to friends and family

not a very good script
what were the rules?
found them:
must not give the money away and must not destroy anything valuable and he also cannot tell anyone why he is spending all this money

Find some expensive hookers, some drugs, rent a private jet and blow a bunch of it at random casinos across the world. I usually don't win so I'm counting on that to continue. However, with drugs and hookers, how can I lose?

i agree i would do that also.
in a way he did break the rules as the movie suggested when the tabloids printed out he bought the stamp. but since stamps are for commercial use, the rule was therefore declined, 15 yards, automatic 1st down!!!

rent a really kickass penthouse in New York, London and in Paris and travel back and forth.
I'd hire a pack of high-end hookers in each city and give them clothing rental allowances. i'd rent yachts in the french riveria, and buy out broadway musicals, rent ferraris and maybachs.

i'd produce a movie for personal enjoyment and hire megan fox and that amy adams chic and make them do nasty things in the script.
i hire U2 to play a concert in downtown New York, and I'd rent a city block to stage it.
i guess i'd probably hire Derek Jeter to give my son private hitting lessons, then hire Troy Aikman to give him private quarterbacking lessons.

Where did it say that? Didn't he bet on some longshot horses to win?

yeah, i think you're right...i thought i read somewhere where you couldn't gamble. shite i could burn through $30MM easy if i put Vegas and Atlantic City on the list.
I could definitely spend $1MM/day...i'd need at least 2 weeks to plan everything.

I wonder if he could have bought the Picasos, defaced them in some way, and then sold them for like 10$ a piece. No assets, no burning of the photos, and much better off in the money situation.

but what is $30M in 2010 money?

It's basically double 1985, so I guess about 60 Million.

Just wondering, do casinos give some kind of paperwork to the player for losses? Basically would the casino give him a receipt for losing 30M. Yet I'm sure if you lost 30M they'd give you a receipt in a second. What about the everyday play? Like $1000
