Johnny sure had the hots for June. Felt kind of bad for his first wife how he didn't even try to hide it.

Why? She was a horrible unappreciative unsupportive shrew of a woman.

Not sure how true that actually was irl, but wives like that deserve what they get.

Jesus

My guess is she became a raging bitch because her husband was fricking around on the road.

That said, he should’ve just left her but it was definitely a different time. Just look at June getting shamed over her divorce by fans.

Probably not, but they had to make her a horrible person in the movie so we'd not judge Johnny for dicking around and courting June Carter during his marriage.

We root for Johnny to get away from the ungrateful shrew and cheer at the end when he lands his cheating partner.

IRL, from what I've read...June actually was the pursuer...it was June, while John was married - he tried to stay faithful (apart from one-night stands I suppose) but faithful as in not having a mistress.)

But June defintely seduced Johnny as they toured together, that's in his book Cash on Cash.

BTW, it's a wonderful movie, so well done and the music is great. It's something you can watch over and over for a good time.

The Viv in the movie looks a tad different than the real wife.

The main reason Cash is overrated as frick is that film. His music sucked and he was a piece of shite person.

Phoenix is a very fine actor, however odd that family seems to be. Witherspoon put in an inspired performance as well. The story is fairly gripping, too.

My favorite parts are still Shooter channeling his dad - spot on - and the kid and Sammi Smith's kid (Waylon Payne, yes, named after Shooter's dad) playing The Killer.

As much as I like the movie, I never cared for her performance as JCC. Also, her singing sounds nothing like JCC, who had sort of an odd, distinctive singing voice.

I also never really liked Phoenix's interpretation of Cash. He played him as a socially awkward odd loner.

His first wife looks a lot like Hillary Swank. Swank probably would have fit the part better than Ginnifer Goodwin too even though it would have been unlikely for a 2x Oscar winner to accept a thankless supporting role.

The real life first wife said that pills and June Carter ended her marriage.

She might have had some reasons to be pissed. The movie was pretty one-sided.

That's the movie where my home town of Helena, AR played the part of Wheeling, WV in the 50's.

All the people that knew Johnny and June have said that movie was mostly Hollywood, not reality.
