Watched The Wizard for the first time the other night. It really is something else

The whole thing is a bizarre riot. From the movie basically being about child drifters being chased by this weird bounty hunter that specializes in children (the Kid-nabber) to the near mute child-prodigy "Wizard" (despite not being that good. 50000 pts isn't that much for double dragon.)
Then the teenage girl sidekick whose catchphrase is "he touched my breast."
Causing the rough, truck stealing truckers to lightly beat the Kid-nabber. (Kind of a light vigilante punishment for accused child molesting)
Despite the Kid-nabber never doing anything sexual at all.
And this is all just a Nintendo advertisement.
Wild.

Good Lord it took me a minute to understand what in the hell you were talking about, then it all came back to me in a flood. That movie was awful.
I only saw it once when it first came out to the rental stores, but if I went watched it now, I wonder if it would be a "so bad it's good" kind of movie.

Two times in my childhood I witnessed kids go crazy in the theatre for a reveal. Super Mario 3 reveal from this movie and the Batwing reveal from Batman '89.

I watched the RiffTrax version and it was hilarious.

It's a very strange movie.
They made a feature length Nintendo commercial at peak NES mania.
It's actually watchable because it has a good cast and ripped off Rain Man completely and gave the intended audience what they wanted, Nintendo stuff.

Didn't he pretty much just say "California" the whole movie?

For no apparent reason?!?!
California was where his last happy family moment with his deceased sister happened you heartless dick!
Sorry. I fricking love this movie.
The Mario 3 reveal was powerful to an 8 year old NZA. As was the power glove.

Now... imagine it's 1939.

After watching that clip I can't believe they didn't fix the latency issue (which was one of the biggest problems with the glove) with a little movie magic.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about. I thought the thread was going to be about the 1939 classic movie, although it’s hard to believe someone would not have seen it until recently…
