I don't see how you can possibly miss it. It's the most overt use I've ever seen of it in a blockbuster.

I was going to disagree with you and bring up the Ghostbusters reboot...but then I notice you said blockbuster.

Nevermind.

It was pretty heavy handed in TLJ though. You can't watch Holdo and Rose and not see it. I mean they literally beat you over the head with "GRRRRL POWAAH!!!"

And that doesn't even include some bizarre additions. I was in disbelief thinking that Disney would burn $70 million dollars to talk about some of this. Feminism, fine, but everything else? Just garbage that I never thought I'd see from the franchise say for maybe a Star Wars Rebels episode.

Ghostbusters was just loathsome and petty. It's so petty that they made a loser who lives in their parents basement the villain just because the internet was pissed about a female Ghostbusters remake. That is the worst villain in cinematic history.

too, I have been staying away from the board for the most part. I defended it right after then it just wasnt worth it so i am just trying to wait out the weeping and gnashing of teeth

Hey guys, I always want to hear opposing views. I was “conflicted” to say the least and this was the first of the Disney owned SW movies that I walked out of scratching my head,

BUT, I am still recommending people go and see it. It is an entertaining movie and worth the $10. There’s a certain level of hate for this movie that I can’t reach. It’s the dark side of messageboard critics.

I hope there are more people on here like me that thought they took some chances that didn’t work out but I’m not going to devote my weeknights to posting in the spoilers thread how much it killed my childhood.

I didn’t love it but I still give it a 6/10.

I can understand your point of view.

I actually think the movie will be good to anybody who is not a big fan of the original trilogy and TFA.
I actually think the movie was good outside of the Finn and Rose story. But as a Star Wars movie I hated it.

There’s a hole in my heart where my childhood used to reside.

But come on, the Luke, Rey, Kylo plot line makes it worth seeing. Sure Luke isn’t as optimistic as he was 30 years ago, but neither am I and I didn’t train my nephew to use a power that he now kills people with.

I’d probably suck blue milk out of some green alien teats as well.

Yeah the prequels weren’t that deflating. They didn’t ruin anything. I could pretend they didn’t exist. I will get there with these but it did ruin TFA for me and all of the new characters

And treating these as if they don’t exist means treating all Star Wars movies related building off of this catastrophe that way...so why go see more Star Wars movies?

People built up in their heads that Luke would be some Jedi God when he turned 60 when in reality he was pretty much always a bitch.

Yeah but that happened later.

To get to that point, Luke first had to spaz out and give serious thought to murdering his nephew in his sleep just because he felt some dark side influence on him (which he should have expected when he took him on because he has Skywalker blood) only to have his nephew wake up, kick his arse and convince half of his students to help him kill the other half and burn his school to the ground.

So, yeah, I get why he's cynical now but don't get why he was that jaded when he was running his school.

That isn't the issue. The issue is turning his character into a hopeless hermit whiny bitch. His sister is literally about to get killed along with everything she stands for. But he is like nah I am out. I am just waiting to die because something didn't go right a few years back.

Absolute opposite of who he was in the first 3 movies.

All done with flashbacks

Remember when obi wan took 15 seconds to explain the prequels to Luke?

Or how about rey has a vision where that scene unfolds but she’s in kylos place and she confronts Luke afterwards or doesn’t confront him but treats him skeptically

Nope, narrated flashback.

Even when they show you, they have to explicitly tell you. Because these directors and writers think everyone is stupid as shite

Maybe I missed it but did he say he started to realize he fricked up and THEN he saw the evil in Ben?

I thought it all just went to shite In one swoop. Luke never had formal training. I never expected him to even be anywhere close to Yoda or even Kenobi. I guess all of the old EU stuff wrote him like that and I never got into it.

Luke was a farm boy that ended up saving his father despite terrible odds. He was never going to be a Jedi god.

Luke was a whiny bitch, then he changed

That’s called an arc

Johnson does kind of take 2 steps backwards with Luke while acting like he took him 2 steps forward

Watch our introduction to Luke in ANew Hope and tell me he didn’t have the makings of a whiny bitch back in the glory days of the rebellion.

“But I was going to Tashi Station to pick up some power converters!!!!”

I bet Luke was backhanded quite a bit as a child.

ETA: I get what your saying. I’m just not as upset about as some. Real people have life changing things happen to them and sometimes it fricks them up. That happened to Luke. Seriously, if he was in a remote planet doing force jumps and other shite at 60 years old I would have been worried that he was just a caracature of who we as fans wanted him to be.

You just proved my post.

He explains in the movie why he's a hermit now.

The movie explains a lot

It shows us nothing

ETA: I take that back. I saw Luke blow an alien on the beach

And it is not realistic at all. Luke would not just let his sister get hunted down.

Literally the only thing he ever did that was badass as far as jedi go until the end of tLJ is not turning to the dark side in RotJ.

Well there is that....

But I am talking about when he becomes the hero.
