My take too. He could have stopped one of his men from being stabbed to death while fighting that German if he'd gone up those stairs with a purpose other than to look like a chickenshit.

It's hard for me to watch that movie because of that scene and his dumbass. Not sure who I hate more: Rose, Upham, or Dr Mann.

I don’t blame Upham for anything because it was Capt Miller’s fault for taking him. The minute Miller laid eyes on him, he should have said no, get me another one. We are talking about a hard charging group of Rangers, not some guys that got drafted six months ago. Bringing Upham created a massive weak spot in the group, and it was poor decision making on the Captain that got Mellish killed.
